CB makes a nice breather, if you don't mind 'fixing' the seal it comes with. Other than that, it's a nice piece. My favorite thing about it is that you can hook up both valve covers, and still have a few ports left over for venting other places.

I run the CB Breather. I didn't have any leaks for a long time, them they started. I ran a very small bead of blk rtv around the id of the lid and now it's fixed. That breather really looks goos powder coated black. Wink

what are your feelings on the quality of this breather? I´m going to buy, strip the chrome, powdercoat it black, use stock VW breather cap and I would like to weld in some more ports to vent my valve covers and engine case. Thanks, Jan

That's not my engine, I found that pic in the gallery...

This is mine. 1915. Turnkey from Chico... had them put the DTM on since we have pretty intense summer heat.

I had a Clyde Berg box... it's a NICE piece, well made. The only problem I had was finding a place to mount it since it kind of blocked airflow behind the shroud when I mounted it in the middle. Also, cleaning it is a PITA since it doesn't come apart. Needless to say, I sold it. They keep their value.

glenn,

where do the other breather lines go on your berg setup? it looks like the two horizontal nipples are going one to each rocker cover, where does your top one go?

we've got a 2109 going into a '63 beetle here with a berg breather box and the last thing to do to it is plumb the crankcase breather lines.

You can purchase the DTM from Jakes site.

http://www.aircooledtechnology.com/store/home.php?cat=250

I have started a thread on his aircooled technology forum (you must register) showing how to install one. I haven't had time to update the pics - as I have been working a lot lately.

Probably a little overkill for a street car though. Razz

The two lower ones go to each valve cover. The upper one goes through the fender well via the existing hole left from the charcoal canister and has a small K&N filter on the end.

Is there anything inside of it?

Two baffle systems. The left valve cover gets half the box, the right valve cover and oil filler get the other half. It seems to work pretty good at seperating the oil from the air.

Jan,

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the Latest Rage breather. I purchased it about 5 years ago and the chrome still looks new. The only issue I had, was getting the correct O-ring for bolting it to the clamp (CIP1 recommended one).

The interior baffle system is welded nicely and oil filling is a breeze Smile

I spin 7,000+ rpms at the track and get very little oil leakage...just a bit of moistness in the K&N vent that you see in my photo.

I am also going to weld another port onto mine this winter.

I have one of those chrome rage ones, when I went to mock it up the o ring is very difficult to fit - too fat - so in the end I turned down the clamp nut that goes to the alt/gen mount by about 1mm - now the supplied o ring sits better and has the right squish. Oh and I had mine powder coated and swapped out to a stock oel cap.

Its not quite Berg box but its still cheaper and should work ok. Trouble is its now too tall for a bus installation - DOH - cant get oil in unless I'm really cunning.

Anyway I ended up going with a short Berg which thay had in stock for my bus and the rage goes to the bug.
