Hi all,

About a year ago I did the South African grille and headlight relay upgrade to my '91 Westy. The process was pretty straightforward, and all appears to be working fine under normal circumstances. However, on two separate occasions, I've had one or both high-beam fuses burn out. In both cases it has been after the high beams have been on continuously for approximately 10 minutes.

I've done a bit of research, but haven't found any references to changing the fusing for the relay upgrade. Has anyone else run into this? The behavior makes me think that it's an issue of running too much current through the fuses, rather than a short. The installation seemed hard to screw up, but maybe I've done something wrong? I'd be really grateful for any input on this.

Just signed up on the Samba today after a few years of occasional lurking. I've got a '91 Syncro Westy with a 2.5 Subaru engine and lots of the "standard" upgrades, looking forward to contributing here.

Did you change the Fuses to 20amp? Did you add an extra ground to the light harnesses? If both have been done, Its the bulbs themselves causing the excessive draw, Ive ran into the problem a couple time

My headlight relay kit said to add 5A to the stock fuses when running the high wattage bulbs.

So far no problems here...

OK, I think that must be it, I'm still running 10A fuses. Maybe I missed some fine print somewhere, but I did go back and try to find fuse references and didn't see any.

In any case, thanks for the help guys. I guess I'll start with 15A and see how that goes.
