Hi All, my name is Brendan, I from Ireland and have been doing a lot of reading on the forum. Its brilliant!!!! Well anyway I said I'd post up some pictures and a small bit of info.on my 1971 Irish Beetle.
Its the first car/beetle that I ever bought and I learnt to drive in it,Have it 17years now, it had one pervious owner and when I got it, it that only done 31,250 miles. It has just over 50,000 on it now. In Ireland the climate here is very very wet and most beetle suffer from rust, but when I got this car first it was rock solid which is a rare thing, all was required was some new paint and back it went on the road.
Been collecting a few accessories and adding them to the car over the years aswell.
When I got the car first.

Nice! There can't be too many Irish-built beetles left in such nice condition. Keep it as original as possible.

Where in Ireland are you?

Hi Mike, and thank you. To be honest I have made some mistakes on the car over the years, colour change, had 8spoke empi's on it aswell at one time, incorrect accessories for the peroid, to name a few.
The last few years I have been trying to correct them mistakes and making my car more stock. Not going to change the colour though I like it too much.

Live just in the Rep. near Limerick city

Very interesting. It's a little overkill, but I like it. It has a personality.

My favorite accessory, although not that rare, has to be my kerd feelers. Most people don't know what they are as they weren't on classic cars in Ireland. Always getting asked what they are. Have had people running after me at the end of shows say "there something hanging or falling off your car, I think its your aerial," a bit of a laugh when I tell them what it actually is.

Yes its a solenoid lock made by SIMO, How it works is that its wired up to the Bosch coil, when you turn your key in your ignition it activates a electronic magnet which pulls a pin away from the back of decklid lock allowing the lid to be opened.

Ah yeah.. thought this seemed familiar. More about electric latches here.
Apparently there were several versions for many different locks.

Cool door storage comparment/pocket. Smile
There are a few advertising photos of those in the accessories brochures (under accessories archives).. but nothing showing any close up details.

See quite a few knick-knacks that would come in handy! Very ambient bug! Cool

Yeah, I post about the decklid lock before, really cool little accessory. this was the only accessory that was on the car when I first got it and from new, the original one packed it in a long time ago but luckily my friend had one and I was able to replace it.

The door pocket are made by Kamei very handy for holding things, I keep my 8 tracks tapes and a few other things in them.
