Drove the thing for the first time in 2 months. At first she wouldn't start due to the distributor being about 15degrees ATDC. After staticly setting and getting her started, I adjusted the timing. She idles smoothly,

While driving aslong as I'm accelerating she runs smooth. But if I let off the gas or back off the gas to the point I'm just crusing, she will surge and backfire.

I've got the 1835, with dual kadrons I rebuilt. Last time I drove her it wasn't this bad. If anything I had an issue with pinging while accelerating.

I'm just kinda lost right now
Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

A few ideas:

1. Bad Gas. The car has been sitting. You may have moisture in you tank which is now making the situation worse. I would start by putting some gas dryer in your tank and filling up with fresh gas.
2. Do you have points? If so check to see they are not burned/pitted. Check the dwell.
2. Timing. Set the timing with a timing light to the proper spec.
3. Vacuum - If applicable, check all vac connections including caps etc. One my have gotten knocked loose or is cracked. That will cause a problem like the one you describe.

Which distributor do you have? The correct timing depends on the distributor and whether or not the vacuum cans operate correctly.

I'm spinnin the 009 with points. I've got a 009 with the pertronix, but I could never get it to start with that combination. I guess I'm gonna try to find a dwell meter and have another go at it.

It accelerates well but doesn't run well once you back off a bit, it sounds like it is too lean during normal operation. You might just add a can of FI/carb cleaner to the gas and see if that does it.

Do you have any idea how much advance your 009 gives. The advance can vary greatly from one unit to another.
