Here's latest that Channel 8 from New Haven is saying as of this morning, for Sunday:

"...On Sunday, a front approaches and it will cool us down and bring us some extra clouds along with the threat of thunderstorms as well. Less humid air will also push into the state behind the front!... SUNDAY: Partly sunny with a shower or storm late. Shore: 86. Inland: 88..."

Considering what it's like out there right now as this is being written (a coworker was just out doing a lunchtime errand and said his car was indicating 106 degrees as the outside temperature, as it sat in the company parking lot--probably some radiant heat contribution off of the parking lot blacktop, but still...), I'll take it...

Amazing show today. 54 or so VW's made it out. The dash plaques were the best ever! Thanks Steve. Now just to figure out where to put it.
Thanks again!

Had a great time today. Great VW turnout, and the other cars were great too. The Badges were an unexpected surprise. Thanks Steve!

It was nice to see Jeremy get recognized. I haven't know him that long, but long enough to see how much work he (and the CVA crew) put in to promoting events and rallying VW enthusiasts near and far.

Had a great time! Was always meaning to get to this show for years, but something always came up that conflicted. Glad we did not miss the year VW made the mark. The badges were certainly a surprise and will be cherished.

That was a great show!
I really enjoyed it, and my son had a banner day meeting up with a bunch of guys who build motorized bicycles and taking his on a 6 mile cruise.
I'm glad we got back in time to see the prize winning rides announced.

Thanks everyone for coming out to Guilford yesterday, displaying all your beautiful and varied antique VWs of all styles, stock + modified, and being such gracious and friendly people--I can't tell you what a great time I had!

The show organizers eyes sure were opened by the VW show yesterday! It is an understatement to say that the VW turnout this year shattered all previous records!

I will do my best to get the winners list posted here shortly, and then follow up with photos.

It was a special highlight and honor for me being able to present CVA President Jeremy with his very well-deserved "Hero" award during the awards ceremony! The details of the award, plus several very nice letters of nomination, are presented on this page: http://home.comcast.net/~commonsteve/HEROES.html

I have to say, sorry about the dust though--I think my car got the worst of it, being parked down on the corner, where every single other show car made the corner onto the show field. I've got some cleaning to do!

Thanks again everyone, sincerely.

Thanks wildman! It was a good one indeed. I hope to make Terryville, and will look for you there!

Tim,

It goes without saying that you and all of the other "401 livery" cars & people stole the show yesterday. And that applies to both stock as well as modified, as you well know.

A lot of barriers (between VW people and so-called "serious" car people) got broken down yesterday--thanks in no small part to you guys and all of your top-notch, righteously righteous rides.

Thank you and everyone again for really making the day much more special than could've been imagined.

Still need to go and rescue my camera and notes out of my dusty car, so that I can start getting some post-event documentation going--hope to be getting to that soon...

Anyone else who may have any photos or reflections from yesterday they may wish to share, please also feel free to do so...

They had Mopars as the "Featured Marque" last year and I think did quite well--maybe 25 or 30 or so showed up, from what I recall seeing. But the guy I work with from the T-Bird Club who is the Time Machines show chairman, was also lamenting how their usual "Featured Marque" ideas don't yield that much. The one example he mentioned was Corvettes, where they had set aside all this space on the show field, and something like 11 or 12 of them showed up.

In thinking further about it, I think another huge note of THANKS is due to TheSamba.com, for providing this fantastic place, where folks can go to talk about upcoming events, not only in "announcement" form, but also as conversational give & take. Maybe if those Corvette guys had as active, inclusive, and easy-to-use place to go, to try and synergize enthusiasm for a Featured Marque muster at a car show, maybe they might've done better. I am SURE that THIS PLACE, that is a popular, easy, and fun forum for VW enthusiasts to communicate and share ideas, made a MAJOR positive impact on this year's Time Machines VW turnout. So, a definite tip of the hat is also due to the Samba managers and forum moderators.

Anyway, Tim, as much as "the general car show public's" attitudes can be changed through one car show, I think they were indeed changed on Sunday. And your contribution toward that was indeed a major one. Thanks again, to you and everyone.

Here are some of my "official/unofficial" numbers & winners list.

53 total VWs entered in the car show. There were also two VWs parked in the flea market area: Clay & Mary's '62 Hi-Roof Panel Truck, and Cardone & Daughter Automotive's (Dave & Nancy Cardone) '74 Super Beetle.

Other very notable VW folks selling stuff in their flea market spaces included Ellie Lowell, Chuck Pisconski ("Mr. Masterseries"), and Tom Matulis.

And in another part of the car show (I believe it was Class "NN" - Display Only), there was our VW buddy Jack Larson ("Mr. Munchkin Motors") showing his late model Mini Cooper Convertible.

For the car show, it looks like 34 stock VWs chose to get judged, and 16 modifieds chose to get judged. Which leaves 3 who chose not to get judged (though I'm fairly sure that number may be slightly off--I'm not sure why, but I would guess that at least twice that many cars chose not to get judged--I do not have access to the judging forms any more though, so I can't go back and check--all I have is my own notes).

The "Best of Featured Marque" award was given to the VW that had the highest point total per the judging forms, from among all stocks & all modifieds--that vehicle was Mark Lasky's '66 Deluxe Bus (that was entered in the STOCK class), from Little Falls, NJ. Wow, what a vehicle!

For the STOCK class awards, the winners were:
1st = Mike Bonczewski's '70 Beetle Sedan, from Shelton, CT
2nd = Jeff Miller's '73 Bug, from Northford, CT
3rd = Jimmy Arcucci's '64 Bug, from Hamden, CT

For the MODIFIED class awards, the winners were:
1st = Miguel Bracero's '63 Bug, from New Haven, CT
2nd = David Abelow's '66 Bug Convertible, from Westport, CT
3rd = Tim Scheller's '65 Hot Rod Bug (chassis car), from Coventry, RI

Equal "Wow Factors" for all the above class award winners too! Congratulations & thanks to them, and all VW class participants, for making it a special show, and please stay tuned for photos still-yet-to come.

I am also awating some "approved for publication" words from the car show chairman, and I'll do my best to pass those along, as soon as I receive them...

Steve i can honestly say i have never had the compliments from anyone such as yourself...seriously..I have a few selective customers who treat me so good and I do the same to them as well....but I gotta say:

...i love my customers, I can name 40 right now that have been there for me in a certain instance this time last year as well as anything else that happen to come up..

....to hear it from a complete stranger who I've met literally once (that i can remember) is a very grateful thing to hear, Steve...you just don't get that these days buddy and it's a good feeling and makes me wanna just keep going and get back in the saddle.

...to all of my guys who came out with me through out the years and such..my hand goes out to yooz and truly am so happy to given you guys something you've all worked so hard for...

Dave,Jeff,Kurt,Jon,Rich,Cliff,Glenn,Tim 1,Tim 2... and the list goes on and on..you guys make the season come alive and keeps me pluggin forward even with all the hurtles and economy!!!

...anyways enough blabbin'....see you guys again at Terryville!!!!

Hey Tim, you and your guys are the ones who make it happen--I just write about it! 'Nuff said!

It also struck me today that we had a best estimate of 53 VWs participate in the car show--given the significance of that number in the VW world (think: Love Bug), I have to think that we had a little bit of karma helping us out as well...

Anyway, I have started going thru and processing images--hope to start posting some this evening...

Here are a variety of overall-type views of the Antique VW Gathering at "Time Machines 2011," Sunday, July 24th, 2011, Guilford Fairgrounds, Guilford, CT. Quite a scene!

I realize that the Type II coverage is pretty light in these particular views--I am going to have to rectify that once I get into more individualized shots--and I also, of course, welcome anyone else who'd like to add their own favorite photos to this thread to please do so!
