Bugs out at the North Haven Monday Nite Kickoff Cruise, 5/10/2021... Nice evening to get the old cars out to the season kickoff cruise night organized by the "Doo Wop Cruisers" car club of North Haven, CT. I drove my '70 Bug and had a great time catching up with folks and seeing lots of cool cars. Couple of shots of my car and me by Ed Davis, one of my car and Brian's '71 by Brian Esposito (first time seeing Brian's car in person and also meeting Brian), and then one by me of Brian and his beautiful '71 Super.

Finally got the '70 Bug dragged out after a long hibernation, and the first shakedown run was this past Sunday, out to Orange, CT, to drop off some new, unwrapped toys at a Toys For Tots event at a cool old-school independent drive-in restaurant, "Goodies." One of the local classic car clubs, "Crusin' East Car Club," had a major part in organizing the event. Nice job by one and all with this seasonal good cause that also gave the old car guys an excuse to drag the classic cars out again on a nice clear & bright day.

Solstice-Eve Pleasure Drive with the '70 Bug... Very nice weather yesterday, Monday, December 20th, 2021, which I had off from work, and with the '70 Bug happily in an accessible spot, I decided to take a little drive over to Guilford and back. Did not see any salt on the roads, and some rain during the weekend may have helped wash any away. This picture is at the parking area of Jacobs Beach on Seaside Avenue, in Guilford, CT.

If I have to deal with snow, this is the kind I would prefer to deal with--light and non-long-lasting! But we live in New England, so we have to deal with whatever Mother Nature dishes out...

Just age tears starting. No knife attack. I know I need a new top on the car, just not a good time right now to drop the big bucks for it...

Nice to see you still have the original vert deck lid. This type had the maximum number of slots. In 72 they standardized on a lid with 2 fewer slots.

Drove up to Middletown, CT yesterday (3/27/2022) to check out a cool & informal car meet staged by the "Freedom Forever Auto Club." It was held in the parking lot of a town park at the edge of a beautiful lake. Car ran great, and I had fun! More info: https://www.facebook.com/FreedomForeverAutoClub

Tried this out in my '70 Convertible Bug this past weekend--an Amazon acquisition:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08PPJDCKV?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details

Going to have to do something about that "Cuisinart" logo, though--maybe paint it black or put some electrical tape on it or something.

Looks like it'll do ok in my '60 Bug also--it can kinda sit on top of that chrome strip that goes across the glove box lid.

Magnet seems plenty strong, and it has a rubber layer on it so that presumably it won't scratch the metal surface to which you're sticking it.
'
Note: The "cup" portion is fixed orientation with respect to the large oval-shape magnet (it does not "swing" or "swivel" in any way).

I've been off on a tangent lately, talking about the restoration of the latest cool 14" mags that I scored from a Samba seller, and how they eventually ended up on on the '70 bug--here's the thread: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=768445

I also drove the Bug in our town's Memorial Day Parade, back on May 30th of this year--here's the thread: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=768890

Latest update, since I last wrote a few months ago: Took in a cool town green cruise night, 7/6/2022, Branford, CT...

Our town tried a new thing last year, with setting up a DJ to play oldies music on the Town Green, on Wednesday evenings during the month of July, and inviting classic cars to arrange themselves on the nice inner perimeter limited-access roadway that encircles about a third of the Green (major town roads border the other two thirds). This past Wednesday evening was the first for 2022, and they got an excellent turnout on a beautiful evening. I was very happy to be able to participate with the '70 Bug!

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

ABOVE: Fairly early in the evening when I first got there. the event was listed to run 6-8pm, and this was about 5:45pm. That's the Branford Town Hall building in the background with the white columns.

ABOVE: A friend from in town, Ray, had a passer-by take this picture with his phone. What do you think, are we a couple of "Wild And Crazy Guys" or what?! Ha ha!

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

ABOVE: Later in the evening--a lot more spectators had filtered in to check out the cars & trucks.

ABOVE: A selfie right before we got rolling home again. Beautiful evening overall! Thanks to the Parks & Rec Department from Branford, CT for setting it all up!

Some top down local driving, Thursday evening 7 July 2022...

Stopped down at Stony Creek Village to check out an outdoor fundraising concert at the Congregational Church, and parked on the side of Thimble Island Road.

After that, I drove up to the Super Stop & Shop up by the highway on Leetes Island Road (Exit 56 off of I-95) to grab a few provisions, as the sun was going down (a little bit of electronic enhancement on that photo, and then a black & white conversion experiment also).

The doggie also got a top down ride to the dog park... Sunday evening, July 10th, 2022, we took a nice evening ride out to the local dog park in Branford, CT. Puppy enjoyed his convertible ride.

Checking out a cool new cruise night in Essex, CT, Tuesday 7/19/2022... Got out of work a little early on Tuesday the 19th of July, since I wanted to see if I could check out a new local-area cruise night at a popular restaurant called "Scotch Plains Tavern" (https://www.scotchplainstavern.com/ and/or https://www.facebook.com/scotchplainstavern/). First two shots are a stop off at the I95 northbound service plaza in Madison, CT to get some gas, and then third-fifth pictures at the SPT cruise. Had a lot of fun checking it out, seeing some cool cars and meeting some new car people, including SPT employee Zack who set it all up (he also drove his hot rod Honda Ruckus there and displayed it). Stuff like this is what makes summertime great!

Drove the Bug to a free "Jazz on the Green" concert, 7/21/2022... Fantastic evening in Branford, CT, this past Thursday evening, for a free jazz series that our town produces, with many local businesses sponsor. Enjoyed driving the '70 Bug top-down! With the heat and lack of rain lately, the town "Green" was actually kind or more "Brown," but still an enjoyable evening! The musical act was excellent also: "Isabella Mendes & Flavio Lira Quintet," who played Brazilian-style cool jazz!
