I just test drove a '75 2L FI Westfalia I am thinking about buying and had a hard time getting it over 60 mph on flat open road. I checked the throttle body, and it's able to move all the way to wide open. The motor was professionally rebuilt 6000 miles ago and does not smoke. It idles nicely once warmed up. I am new to buses, but didn't realize they could be this sluggish. Is this normal?
What's your top speed, and how long does it take to make it over 60 mph? _________________ 1977 Westfalia Weekender Berlin "The Kitebus" aka " Colonel Mustard"

There's a few threads on this. Do a search.
But to answer your question directly for now, my 70 with its type one will do 65 comfortably on flat ground, and would probably go faster if I didn't really care about its health. It's all over with ANY grade, though. _________________ 1970 Westfalia Pop-Top |

Change your thread line. Like the guy above said there are other threads on top speed. You want to stick to sluggish-slow throttle.
No your 2 liter FI should be pretty peppy. Im surprised at how crisp mime is. Gets up and goes too. _________________
