Hey, thanks for the suggestion. That muffler set up isn't for merged headers though so it would mount away from the aprons and look odd I think.
Also I emailed thunderbird and asked for pics of their merged qp system mounted on a car and they said they don't have any. So no help there. |

I second that.
Find a conventional muffler with 1 3/4" ID core tubes, that should be about right. |

Not everybody wants to fuck around with fabricating something to make it fit... nothing wrong with requesting pics of an existing readily available made system. |

AJ Sims is selling the dual kits for the header that is on your car. I do believe that the CB Performance mufflers are the same thing. A buddy of mine just put that set up on his bug and it sounds nice and fits pretty good.
Ultimately, if you want them to fit nice and tight to the back end of the car, then you will have to do some cutting and welding to get a perfect fit. Below is a picture of how the old mufflers looked when I first put them on the car. But again, to get that tight of a fit, you will have to cut and weld to fit them which is what I did.

Sorry but that muffler design is junk and not designed to make any hp at all.
You need a merge/collector for that. Tumble mufflers like the stock design, just kill hp. All the were meant to do was quiet the exhaust note. |
I'm not saying you are wrong or anything....but what is that statement based on?
In the Vintage Speed ads, they show dyno numbers that show 1-2 hp drop compared to a merged header and turbo muffler/stinger.
Are you calling those dyno numbers a sham? |

You're right I will need to cut and modify most mufflers to fit the bodylines correctly, although I don't think I want to go with a dual quiet pack like you had. I like the look of a single muffler so I might just go the custom route, but I also want to make sure I'm using the right size muffler for this motor. I'll post up pics when I decide to take action on it.
Thanks, that looks very similar to the CB set-up posted on the first page, and the thunderbird muffler too. To me though I think the muffler should sit more under the apron, and the tip seems a bit long etc. I just feel i could attain what i want by taking it to a muffler shop so that's probably what I'll do. More than anything I wanted to clarify that these 2.5/3" fat boy muffler aren't really for small hp engines. I think I'll look into something 2" or so and go from there.
Thanks guys! |
