So it seems my fuel pump is leaking into carb after shutoff, flooding it and making it hard to start ten minutes later.

I have hooked up a gauge and get a solid 3 PSI when car is running and the pressure goes up to 3.5/4 PSI immediately when engine is shut off, then pressure slowly drops down to zero.

It's a 1600sp with a 30pict/1 carb and Mechanical sealed pump.

Should the pump retain its pressure aftershut down?

Will adding a Holley regulator fix this issue?

Found that we needed a second gasket between the shut off valve and the top of the carb. That kept the shut off valve closed, and rid of the fuel over flowing into the throat of the carb, especially when the weather was very warm.

Would gasket shim up the pump or grind down the fuel pump rod if needed, before installing any non-stock part like a regulator. K.I.S.S.
