Anyone remember the old 1981 James Bond movie For Your Eyes Only? There is a scene on a beach in Greece where the villans are trying to run 007 and a girl over in two GP buggies. They eventually succeed in killing the girl, although one of the buggies are turned over in the process. The entire scene kan be seen here:

Although there are two buggies in the story line, they are never shown at the same time, and I am 100% sure that only one was actually used. I've always wondered if this buggy still existed, till I recently found this pic of a buggy in the James Bond museum, which they claim to be the very one used in the movie.

I e-mailed the museum asking them for some more pics at different angles, but haven't heard anything from them. It clearly has a flat Type 3 engine in the movie scene.

Is it the real thing? I honestly don't know! What do you think? Anyone staying close to the town of Keswick in England who would go and take a look for us? At least the filler cap looks the same, but that's about it! (Guess the buggy had quite a hard life after the movie... )

As far as I know, there are two models of the 007 buggy, the first was by Johnny Lightning (which doesn't look like the movie buggy at all, they only used a generic casting!)

The second is number 81 in the James Bond Car collection (which should be here in South Africa later this year) - it is a lot more realistic, can't wait to get mine! Cool

There are three more James Bond movies where buggies are spotted, but not in such a main role as the movie mentioned above.

A buggy can be seen in 'Moonraker' next to a Rolls in Brazil:

In 'Octopussy', 007 passes a buggy standing next to a gas station as he lands the Acrostar minijet (after running out of gas!) - it is towards the end, just before the theme song

In the 'A View to a Kill' Renault car chase through Paris, a buggy can briefly be seen at 0:49 here:

Maybe they installed and removed it, but just before it rolls over one has a roll cage, then later it has a roll bar again.

If you look at them again one has amber turn siginals with pinstripes along the fenderlips. The other has no pinstripes and Clear siginal lenses

The place in Keswick isn't strictly a Bond museum, they just have a big collection of Bond vehicles....and one car they have is what I'd travel across the pond to see:

(the one and only, used in both 'Mad Max' and 'The Road Warrior')

The Bond buggy scale model is still not available here in South Africa, but here are a few pages of the magazine that goes with it, containing a few more stills from the movie:

Additional info from the auction site:

Quote:
Three GP Super Buggies appear in the film, driven by villain Locque [Michael Gothard] and his henchmen, as Bond [Roger Moore] and Countess Lisl [Cassandra Harris] take a romantic walk on the beach. Locque appears over a hill in his buggy and watches as one of his henchmen, Claus, chases Bond and Lisl in another buggy. As they evade Claus by running to the top of a dune that his buggy cannot surmount, another buggy appears from the other direction. Bond shoots at the second buggy, causing it to roll and crash. As Lisl runs away down the beach, Locque begins to chase her in his buggy and runs into her, killing her as she smashes into the windscreen. Distracted, Bond does not immediately notice Claus pulling up behind him in the first buggy and is captured.

After filming in Corfu, the buggies were shipped back to Pinewood Studios, where the original vendor purchased two in 1981 - one that had been rolled, with bulletholes, and another in good condition. The buggy in this lot is without bulletholes, which suggests it was the first buggy, driven by Claus, which sustained no damage in the film.
