The only real bad I've heard was from Mark McTuckey and as crazy as he may seem to some.....I'd trust his judgment of machine work without question. Wish I had a guy like him to lighten the load for me. Of course we would probably argue all day long about everything and each get a new perspective on things......I'd tell him and he'd tell me and we'd both be told... Laughing

I like Brother's since they have a great rep and are a bit cheaper...great guys that even gave me some odds and ends as well as a couple assembly tips for first timers like myself.

its hard to find a real good machine shop, and someone who will actually get shit done. rimco has been going down hill for quite a while now. brothers is okay, they dont have the best work ive seen, but they get it done, and cheap. or you can go to someone like jeff denham, jaycee, or any of the bergs.... but your gonna pay for it, and your gonna wait in line...

As far as I know they only sleeve with aluminum, and don't offer silicone bronze, least that's what they said when I had a case done and it was expensive, almost twice what brothers wanted. And their piston notching is somewhat scary they remove a lot of material. I had a few buddies say their lifters regrinds aren't right, they don't have the right shape. But I will say their custom barrel shims are quite nice, and a decent price.

I had an AE (AS 41) case machined by Rimco just a few months ago. I had it opened for 90.5s - clearanced for 82 stroke - line bored - welded behind #3 and full flow oiling. Their work looks as good as ever IMO and the case in question is performing very well - its a 2110 in my SB. I've used them many times in the past 35 or so years for various case machining needs. Their work is IMO exceptional. There aren't all that many machine shops that can align bore an ACVW case properly - and of course some who say it can't be done - period - and don't even offer bearings for oversize case bores. Makes you wonder how VW ever got it right the first time. I've rebuilt more than a few VW motors that were line bored and not had problems with them.

Also to add I worked at a shop with its own dedicated engine builder, Gary larson. He had a hard time setting the deck I believe? Tried changing pistons, barrels, it was still funky. Then we found out it was rimcos super rods, the pin bushing was machined incorrectly. Crooked. So he got a new set, those were crooked too, they had a huge batch that was fucked. There are plenty of experiences I and others I know who had problems with them.

i too have heard bad feedback about their recon rods
But you know that's no big loss, there is nothing special about vw rods, any shop that can do rods can do them

They still have all the cool VW specific fixtures and line bore bars I'm sure, and their cylinder spacers rock!

The change happened several years ago. The old man was going to close up and some young blood bought it and is trying to keep it alive.

The only thing I purchased since the new owner was a set of reground stock lifters they had on sale at BOR. They had the correct "rock" and have been going strong with no flat cam or pits on a stock rebuild with high rev springs for 15K miles.

I will continue to support Rimcos new ownership just to try to keep them going, if you all have not noticed MANY aircooled shops (mechanics, machine shops, parts houses, etc) are closing leaving few options for those who want to keep their cars alive.

Really buddy? Somewhere stupid...? They moved to Santa Fe Springs, but you already knew that because you have the internet to look it up.

Sorry, but you should really consider the ramifications before you put someone else's name on blast.
