Long, long I have waited patiently...

The insane price I paid only pales in comparison to the hours I spent searching for the right set...

1.5 years in the making, I finally found this on my doorstep.

What kind of madness is this? What item can strike a man's fancy and leave himself obsessed and mad with envy?

Pretty sure they traveled by boat it took so damn long to get here.

Small box for so much hype. And wow, it makes me nervous there is so little bubble wrap. Have you already guessed it? Let's just have a look and inspect these babies!

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Ahh, oh yeah. That is what I am talking about!

Mother Scratcher - the quest is finally over! Now how the hell do you install these?!
Whatever, I am framing them on my wall...

Or maybe I will just wear them as bracelets to Syncro Solstice.

Woot!

So, if you would like to find some yourself, I thought I would spell out the simplest way. Get yourself an eBay account, and then create a "favorite" bookmark with this address:
http://shop.ebay.de/i.html?_trkparms=65%253A16%257...&_sc=1

Search it every few days, and start to study the different styles that you see. I would guess your range will be $175-$250 for a really nice pair that is not broken. Shipping was about $50. Make sure they ship to the US. You can "watch" items on German eBay (.de), and when you try to access them from the US eBay (.com), the site will say "not available in the US" if the seller has selected that preference. It is good to ask them just in case.

Ironically there do not appear to be any for sale now, but there are usually 3 or 4 pairs at a time. Be patient and good luck. Oh, and don't forget to find a back-lit fog light switch! There are plenty of threads on here about them. Van-Cafe has them I think. You can find them on eBay as well. You'll have to ask the seller to ensure it is the right switch, or ask for a photo of the rear. There are different part numbers for the same basic switch. The looks like one here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/EXCELLENT-ORIGINAL-...ccessories

and another?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/EXCELLENT-ORIGINAL-...ccessories

Wow, prices are really good on these now! Ok, I'll post a few install photos here if it ever stops freaking raining.

sweet score! You're going to love them, they look so good and put some nice light on the ground.

I highly recommend adding some kind of protector film to the lenses. One of mine was cracked by a small rock on the freeway.

I was having a really hard time finding affordable replacement lenses but then some asshole stole them off my van so I don't have to worry about it anymore.

I got some replicas which have the advantage to get the light lens replaceable as a whole.

I got 2 pairs shipped for less than 400$...

They're not hard to find as replicas, but original non broken Projektzwo are.I wouldn't buy them, but it looks like you scored a pair of great ones Cool

Are they blue?!?? Shocked

This reminds me of a "best of Craigslist" I read last week (explicit lyrics):

oh snap this a hella good deal we got hipster tires off the chain they red and yellow as fuck front ones look like new but back ones has a few skids in them because we don't has no breaks because we so raw but you can use them for like a jillion thousand miles use these rubbahs for anything you need besides birth control they so raw oh snap I be holding them right now you need this shit it says they are 700cm but that doesn't make any god damn sense because they aren't 23 feet in diameter so some bitch is lying to us but they are 25 mm wide so they roll faster than all yo bitch asses on ecstasy brand is innova and they so fresh because they so colorful they hurt your eyes to look at 15 dolla or best offer for a pair, we got one pair in red and one in yellow hot damn get em while they in season.

I think you should use those as plugs to reproduce more. They are just too fragile and hard to come by to actually use. Then you could adapt many different lamps to work with them.

I think there is a thread somewhere that discusses alternate lamps for those too.

Wadda ya say?

That is my intent. It sounds like those may exist already in the world but I was unable to source a pair, so the originals will have to do. I'll t ry a couple of local injection folks and see what they say.

If you do repro them, do something to strengthen the attachment points, move the holes away from the edges somehow or whatever can be done. I've had to deal with some, they look nice, but damn they're flimsy!

I doubt you're going to be able to do injection molding. The tooling for that would be crazy expensive, and it would only make sense if you could amortize the cost over a LOT of parts.

There are some ways you could reproduce a few at home, though. Both casting resin (polyester) and vacuum forming are doable on a hobby budget, especially since those parts are fairly small. You can even vacuum form ABS, which is what a lot of bumpers, etc. are made of.

Here are some links:
How to build a vacuum forming table at home and make cool stuff with it: http://www.studiocreations.com/howto/vacuumtable/index.html
A pourable casting plastic system: http://www.alumilite.com/
A more generic source for casting plastic, and other plastic stuff: http://www.tapplastics.com/shop/category.php?bid=33&

You might be able to find the alumilite stuff locally at Hobby Lobby. You can cast clear stuff with it and they've got dyes, so it or a generic polyester resin would be good for the lens.

Vacuum forming the main part would probably be good since it's a fairly simple part and ABS would make it very durable, plus it probably works out to be a lot cheaper than the resin.

There is a fella who posts on our Vanagon forum in the UK who lives in Thailand who can supply the black plastic parts (only in fiberglass) but its getting the lights in the UK that has proven difficult, to end up with an actual working set of lower grill lights. If he offers to ship to the UK, lets be honest its no more trouble to send State Side.
