Saloon... is that what you guys call Sedan?
Says 1500 on the back but has 1641cc in it.

Only bought it this January

Thanks for the submission Graz. By the Vin number though your car is a '68.
The first three numbers "118" signify that it's a Type 1, Sedan, and '68. For example my convertible beetle starts with "157" because it's a Type 1, 5 for convertible, 7 for '67

We'd still love to see a pic though.

Yeah i get what ya saying but was 1st registered in the UK in December 67. I have the log book proving that. Maybe a complete rebuild keeping the same reg plate dunno? will try uploading some pics. Only bought it in Jan tbh not too fussed if 67 or 68 i like it. [/img]

I currently own 2 67.

117 242 293, lotos white L282

and 117 104 568, ruby red L456

The red one is never welded nor repainted, but had a front crash in the 80ies and needs a complete rebuilt.

The white is currently (mmmh, for almost 15 years...) on a way to "better than new", with an IRS pan, Porsche-gearbox, 4-disc-brakes and a lot of other fine details. Pics will follow...

Looks like a great car! Although it says Rusty on the door it looks really solid.

The fuel filler on the right side quarter panel didn't come til the '68 model year and the rear decklid/apron of yours is definitely '68 as well. '68 Models came out in August of '67 which puts yours in the correct timeline to be registered in Dec. '67. Your car was built in late September almost into October.

Thankyou. Seems very solid tbh. Only bad bit i see that needs welding up is bottom of the strut at the front of the passenger door. But hasnt had any welding done at all on it yet. Thanks for clearing up the year/registery etc. I know there are a few bits that are not original on it. But most is. So basically i have a 68 model built in 67! Weird ha ha. Good to know its not been completely rebuilt at least. But may have to carry on posting in other sections of the forum if not a 67. The words and woodpecker were already on it when i bought the car. With my surname being Wood had to be done so i kind of like that too.

Hello again.

My lotos white was build on the 7.october 1966 and left factory four days later, equipped with a "H"-engine and a steel sunroof. It will go back to street as an "OEM++" with a lot of factory extras and finest parts of the sixties and seventies, stepped up with some highlights of today.

The ruby is build on the 29. of august 1966 and sold to a wolfsburg factory worker on the 2. of september.

It still has the original 1300"F"-engine and his first paint, but needs a rebuild from ground off to get back to driveable condition.

The car actually sits in the outermost corner of my barn. At this time it's almost impossible for me to take good pictures, but stay tuned.

Nice straight car. Looks like bumpers have been replaced as well.

I assume you mean the rear sloped 'towel bars' (also known as overriders) not being present on this car.. it's my understanding that those were not installed until early 1967 produced cars...a 'midyear' change, same with the rubber radio knobs, window cranks and side mounted seat release. year model 1967.5

This car was produced in fall of '66 for the 67 year and still had the more horizontal overriders, 66 window cranks and low seat release (down by the backrest hinge) like on 66

Mine is a Sept. '66 build and had the sloped bars. and the rubber radio knobs, window cranks but it has the low seat releases.

Rick

Interesting, where was that car produced? has it been restored?

Not sure where it was built. I bought it when it was 11 years old in August 1978 and was very original when I got it.

Rick, based on the data we have so far, which is very sparse unfortunately.... I would put your build date as the 20th or 21st of September. If more people who have their birth certificate were to contribute we could tell for sure.

Been adding more and more to the registry as people have sent me their info. Ken's (Aircooled_Nut) birth certificate date has helped date a couple recently so thanks Ken.

If anyone else has some '67s that they'd like to register let me know.

So... I have a 67 body, but it’s on a 63 pan Embarassed I got it that way! It doesn’t have a body tag though, it’s registered to the chasis vin. What are some easy ways to tell if it’s a 67 or 67 1/2? It has the window cranks that use a pin, not a screw through the middle, that would be a dead giveaway for an early 67 right?

So.... you could use several identifiers to try and pin down a little bit at what point it was made. That is if the body pieces are pretty original. Obviously there are a lot more changes than this but these are specfic chassis numbers where known changes were made. GL!

1967 BODY—SEDAN CHASSIS NO. 117290435
NEW CLOUD WHITE REAR SEAT PASSENGER GRAB HANDLE STRAPS AND PLASTIC VINYL
BREAK AWAY COAT HOOKS WERE INTRODUCED

1967 BODY...SEDAN CHASSIS NO. 117408151
SEDANS RECEIVED NEW SUN VISORS AND RETAINERS ON BOTH SIDES AT THIS TIME.

1967 BODY—ALL CHASSIS NO. 117425908
*NEW FRONT SEATS WERE INSTALLED IN ALL U.S. MARKET BEETLES

1967 BODY—SEDAN CHASSIS NO. 117496034
NEW DOOR HINGES WITH NEW PINS AND LUBRICATION PROTECTION CAPS REPLACED THE PREVIOUS TYPE. THE LEFT UPPER PIN CONTINUED TO PROVIDE AN EXTENSION FOR THE OUTSIDE MIRROR'S ATTACHMENT. THIS PIN WAS ONLY USED IN LATE 1967.

Well, most of the interior has been replaced so the stock grab handles and hooks are gone. Same with the sun visors, I assume the attachment points didn’t change as TMI sells them as 65-77?

Hi guys, we have a built 27th Jan 1967 1500 Bug in Lotus white.
Chassis no 117 503 321
Engine no H0 605 131

I have a birth cert from Wolfsburg to confirm build date and engine is still original. It is US spec which I’m lead to believe us one family (grandad and grandson) owned in California from new till 2017 when it was shipped over to the U.K. when we bought it. It is original apart from the front bumper blade and passenger wing, which looks to be a genuine panel replaced early in its life due to the stone chips on the front looking even across. I’ll try and post a photo but photobucket us being a pain!
