I had the same problem with my Thing I bought in January. My original flasher relay had a crack on the circuit board. I picked up a new relay at the local VW shop, but it didn't work. It had the same part number as the original, but it didn't work like the original until I added another relay from Radio Shack.
This thread explains it all, and even has a diagram!

I don't know much about electrical but when I got my Thing last June it had the same issue. It ended up needing the flasher unit and the turn signal switch on the column replaced. Couldn't tell you how to test either to see if that is the problem. They also did some work with the wiring. I don't think they replaced any wires just switched some around that were on wrong from the PO getting a cheap paint job done. |

I just had to put in a new flasher switch. Flasher would only work when I would put on turn signal. _________________ Brian

Flasher relay?
Assuming your bulbs are good start at the turn signals to determine if you have 12V and then work your way back through the circuit. _________________ Ghia Owner Emeritus |
