Years ago, here in Chico, two women had removed the camping unit from their 1979 Westy so they could haul things that they bought to resale. The unit, which included an ice box, z-bed, closet with cabinet, and seat for behind the driver's seat, was sold to me for $15. It all went in my 1963 camper.
The 1958 walk-thru camper (no camping unit but had front seats) that I bought for $150 had two engines (one was a good 1500cc engine and is in my 1963 camper) and a good body.
I paid $400 for the 1963 walk-thru camper (no camping unit) and it had a newly rebuilt 1967 transaxle and a good body.
The good ol' days seem to be gone: I can't seem to find any more good deals.

A few years ago, I was trying to buy a 67' Westy from one of my local customers. It was an older resto, a Daily Driver, and Complete. The owner had parked it at his Dad's Business and hadn't driven it a couple years. I asked him quite a few times about selling it, and He said He would but I couldn't get this Guy to commit. He was a pretty Flakey guy to start with.
Eventually his Dad sold the Business, and the Westy got hauled away by a towing company. DAMN, I missed it!
A week later, another customer came in and told me about this old camper bus sitting in a Tow yard. I drove over and found it. The Tow yard sold it to me for $650 AND delivered it to my shop. I put a new battery in it, and it fired right up. It had a massive oil cooler leak, so I replaced some cooler seals and it was good to go. I only had it a couple months until another customer came in and handed me $6,000 for it. Shocked
That was one of the best deals I've had get dropped in my lap.
The bad part is that I had to hand the $6K to a Scumbag Divorce Attorney a few months later. Easy come, Easy Go.

67 SO 42. Original owner, walkthru, complete with tent and rack, og paint. I put a battery in it, aired up the tires and drove it for a while. My friend and I went in halves on it for 400 bucks each. Should've kept that one.

'66 Sundial walkthrough Kombi, $800. $500 for the storage lady, and $300 for the owner that couldn't pay the storage lady.

It was drivable that night, and was my daily starting the next day. Good thing to, I sold a 66 bug for the cash to buy it

1993, 2 blocks from my house, 1963 DC, FREE! Traded for the 62 DC that I drove for 11 years.

2003, 56-57 panel. Nice bus in spite of the hacks. Mostly rustfree and no accidents. And FREE! I wasn't sorry to see it go at the time. But in light of the pile I have now, I miss this one.
