Power windows and doorlocks. Has anyone used the power window conversion kit or the power door lock kits from Mid America

Has anyone used power door locks or power windo kits from any other vendor.

What is your experience with these set ups. I want power window and door locks but I want a proven system that works well in a VW door

My car is a 79 super vert.

Thanks in advance

I added power windows to my 72 Super they are made by Spal not sure the part number I used extra parts from kits to make a full kit but all you would need is a 2 door kit with either 2 or 3 switches (depending on where you mount the switches) I have 1 piece windows and they work great I am going to add power door locks and just use door lock actuators from Directed Electronics (DEI) and have them hooked up to my alarm with no switches

I am an auto electronics tech and when we add power windows to a car Spal is the only kits that we will use there are also some cheaper ways to add power door locks to the car to

If it was me I would buy direct that way you have no issues if you have a warranty problem just add the switches to your order

I run the same kit in mine too, been in for about 3-3.5 years now.

Your winder mechanism health is the big factor in how well they work.

It they are abit stiff or tight the motors will struggle and eventually chew out the plastic gears.

Central locking is easy, the universal kits are a snap to fit to a vw, they just clamp onto the rod for the inside pull.

I've got mine connected to the my alarm so it's remote keyless entry, the looks I get when I unlock my bug by remote, hop in and wind the windows down electrically is priceless.

I do that all the time I have a 2 way alarm on one of my cars the remote is a pager and it lets me know if it is locked/unlocked/started or lets me know if the alarm is going off when I am at the checkout at a store and want to start the car and it doesn't start I hold the remote up to my chin and it usually starts doing that kinda makes your body as an antenna people look at you weird but it does work

There are a lot of thread that the best power conversion kits that mostly used in Mid America is the Spal Kit others A1 electric kit. Well, for me I have this Electric life kit i buy from Stylintrucks. Easy to install and they have this nice wiring.

Depends how fussy you are.
I had a kit like that and the only problem is the winder spindle sticks out through the door panel if you leave it in the stock position.

I had to recess the winder into the door as I didn't want it poking through.
THose black caps in the kit are designed to cover the spindles up after install but still looks like crap.

I am getting around that problem by making custom door panels. I have made fiberglass blanks that contour to the door from side to side and from bottom all the way to the window scraper. I am placing a small arm rest and an area for the window switches to cover the winder.

I will post pics of the doors. I plan on selling the fiberglass panels to other customizers.
I will post pics of the entire build. I have already posted a few.

Not with stock windows but 1 piece would be a problem.
Doesn't need much, about 1" max

I wanted to install the control panel over the old winder hole so window control were still in stock spot and I'm too lazy to make new door panels
