Knocked up a camping interior, and sourced a 1954 vintage Esquire calendar to add a little something to the side panels. Maybe one day they'll be stock but for now I think they work pretty well.

Well deserved, Ben. Appox how many hours of work, including just plain staring at it, went in to this Herculean effort from start to finish? Folks considering similar projects will likely be very interested in what it takes, even for guys that know what they are doing Shocked

Hey Ben, Is that camper set up something you made? I would be interested in something like that for sure.

I actually cheated a little and found a tired and rough home made interior for sale which had been built for a split bus. Dad and I stripped it down, fettled it a little to fit, then cleaned it all up and stained it. The cushions just needed a good scrub. Saved me some time, energy and money starting from scratch!

As for hours into the bus ..... I have no idea how many hours I have in the welding in the end, or in the mechanics and reassembly, but I know that on top of this I also spent a great deal of the last 6 years chasing parts and figuring this thing out. My advice to any sane person would be not to attempt a project of this scale. As for me ...... well I get bored easily I guess so there's always a "next" one ready in the wings Cool

Lots of miles and no real problems except two caused by silly metal work mistakes Confused First off we lost some gears at Hessisch. Turns out the cab floor hadn't been welded to the chassis properly around the gear stick mount area. My friends Oli and Ben at BeetleMagic kindly stepped up and fixed this for me with a repair section fabricated by another good friend and metal guru, Mark Spicer. Big thanks to all three ........

Next up and one of the skylights worked its way lose on the way to Spa. A very strange occurrence but upon removal it seems that the new KlassicFab inner was installed incorrectly meaning that the rubber had no inner lip to bite on to. Another fix by Oli and Ben got me out of trouble on my return to the UK so thanks to them for fixing this one too.

After these couple of fixes, and many, many miles driven across Europe, we felt it was time to get the bus back in the workshop, give her a service , and go through the bus from back to front and top to bottom with a full "shakedown" year under our belts. Nothing else to report though except that the bus has held up well and looks as good as it did when we first got it on the road over a year ago, but we did decide to make a few little improvements that have been niggling me for a while ............

First up we decided to blend a little more paint on the long side. I'd kept this as found originally, partly to prove its heritage, but I've decided that this area was a little too gnarly for the bus and think it looks much better this way. I added some old beauty rings all round too which I think help lift the whole bus.

Secondly I finally received the decklid that I bought months ago from Ken King in Canada. This lid has travelled across Canada to a friend of mine, Eric Cleland, and then in a bus he sold to a guy called Joost in the Netherlands. Joost, a proper gentleman, then hand delivered it to me at Spa. Big thanks to all involved!

Thirdly, at Hessish I took delivery of a replacement passenger door from a guy called Gerald Schulz. Just to make things complicated Gerald lives in Austria and we'd traded for the door. A barndoor deluxe dash area and heater tube was part of the deal, which I purchased from Skim in the States, and he then got it to 10' Doug who in turn posted it to me. It all worked out perfectly so thanks a lot to those guys too, and I think that it suits the bus really well. Interestingly the colour matches way better than the slightly later post-barndoor door that we'd used originally. It fitted straight on too. What a win Cool

Lastly I finally managed to get my repro front seat upholstered to match the rears. I know it's not correct, but I like it and think it suits the bus well.

I guess these old buses are continually changed and improved but I really like where I am with her at the moment. Sadly though I am going to put her up for sale with a view to probably selling either my Jan '51 kombi or Quality Sound. I love both of these very different buses but probably don't have room for them both in my life right now. Maybe I'll change my mind but for now ........ expect an advert soon and feel free to contact me if you're interested in either.

my SO says someone needs to put together a stop-motion movie showing it going back together. Wink

Thanks David Cool You're not the first person to suggest a time lapse video or something similar to show one of my builds. Might be a cool thing to do, especially given what I usually start with! To be honest though I'm bad enough at remembering to take photos sometimes. Maybe the next one eh Wink
