|
|
I DO NOT WORK FOR WAYTEK!
But I got this link--apparently they're selling heavy-duty ignition switches. Has anyone adapted them for a Vanagon? While the stock one is easy to replace, how about one we DON'T need to replace every three or so years?

Thoughts?

Word
I have only the ignition key and house key on my VW keys. Working fine for decades.....
FYI: *IF* you put some other switch then you still have to unlock the steering column, unless you defeat the lock pin.
All a bunch nonsense for not keeping a light set of keys. _________________ "Use the SEARCH, Luke" But first visit the Vanagon FAQ!

There really isn't a need for an aftermarket ignition switch. Here is the solution. I ordered one and already installed it. It takes 10 minutes top.

I assume this heavy duty solution is to solve the electrical failure, not the mechanical failure from having too many keys dangling... is that right? If that's the case, I'm with Vanjoe... why come up with a more expensive, complicated, and potentially butt-ugly solution to a problem that can be resolved by letting a relay take the electrical load? I think a lot of folks are more likely to create more problems just trying to get the electrical right than what they would solve by having the heavy duty contacts.
If the problem is too many keys, just keep a helium filled mylar frog balloon tied to the keys to help counteract the weight. Pretty simple, effective, and inexpensive solution, unless you don't like frogs.

Except that some states - including Nevada - are initiating mylar frog testing and helium will violate the particulate standard. So you could be in for a fine as this was not original VW equipment*
