Anyone care to share how the hardline for the fuel runs along the engine?
I'd like to know things like how far does it stick out from the back of the engine tin and how it is bend so I can install it correctly on my engine.
My bus is a 66 btw.
Thanks!! _________________ www.volksfahrer.nl

I'm replacing all of my rubber line today, I only have a rubber line coming from the tank under the bus and into the engine area. I will put a filter low (below the distributor) so I don't have the risk of fire. I'm also putting a wire on the carb section to prevent the line from popping out.
What is the hard line you are referring to?
not mine but used for study:

Have you considered simply starting with a nicer bus? I don't know what your skills are, but the race is easier if you can see the finish line. If you are not a runner, don't start off doing a marathon. |

I mean the piece of tubing that runs next to the fanshroud (on the leftside of it).
It goes through a rubber grommet in the rearmost enginetin.
I wanna see how it is bend and how long it exactly is on both sides of the tin. _________________ www.volksfahrer.nl

this is an item hard to find in good shape, even though it came on many VWs.
It may actually have sit flat in a plain when new... before being bent and sawed in half where it should have had a grommet.
This 66 owners manual pic shows the metal line screws in directly to the fuel pump.

I ran my hardline as pictured, but just BEFORE exiting the front tin is where I have a short length of cloth line into a short length of hard line (through the grommet) back to cloth line to the fuel tap (tank).
~I always thought the reason the hardline would wear at the grommet (through the tin) was due to the cloth line not being on both sides to relieve friction...Anyone else feel free to correct me |

The PO of mine ran an old piece of brake line as "hard line". |

The type 2 parts reference manual @

Is a must to go through for all the listings and exploded diagrams of almost all the parts for the bus!!! _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

I can answer one part of it - it sticks out about 3-4" from the front tin on my '63. _________________ How to Post Photos
