Kinda sad to see the notch in that condition, I know I've seen pics way back in time, when it was nice. We commented that with the paint job it looked like a baby bel air

Glad to see it go to someone that will do it up right

Yeah, its pretty sad. Here is a pic from when it won second in its class at the Tx VW classic in 2004.

I'm going to try to put it back together. Not sure what to do about the pans since why replace pans if the heater channels are bad and rockers are bad. I gotta do something tho, they are WEAK. This may take me a bit. Very Happy

Looks like you might be sawzalling more of that 68 Square than you originally planned. Shocked I know I'd get as much as possible off it, and try and use as much as possible. There are some differences between the years, but it's really not that far off IF you're willing to adjust it to work.
That spray foam probably has killed more cars than I can count. And I've seen people use it way too often for things it shouldn't be used for. Evil or Very Mad

Yep. I agree Bob. First work day I get, I'm going to pull it all out and see how bad it really is. ANYTHING I can weld in is better than that spray foam. I mean really. Front drivers side bumper bracket (body mount) is rusted away too. The 68 square parts donor I have access to doesnt have a good one.

First order of business is to sort out this brake issue. Dont want to convert to four lug, the disk brake swap is looking like a good option. (either bug or Airwhatsits) Lots of good reading on it too. You T3 guys love write ups apparently. Very Happy

Well, we do like to be completely informed when doing a conversion like that. It's a safety thing. Wink Sometimes I'd rather have too much info, than not enough. Especially for my own stuff, as I don't normally ride by myself all the time. Rolling Eyes Also, a lot of us are diy'ers, and we like to know what we're getting into, along with the end result. Cool

Since a few people have done this, some are showing/telling how they went about doing it. It just gives another prospective on the job.

FWIW, I have not heard anything really good about the Airkewled BAD Brake set up, whereas the T1 wide five conversion seems to be the bee's knees.

Thats the way I'm leaning. I have a set of late square disc brake spindles, and I'm fairly handy. Ive read the bug disc swap thread front to back twice. Lots of good info there.

IF you got the 72-73 spindles then 320i calipers will bolt right to it.

Except he's changing the rotor to something that won't work with the 320i caliper. Rolling Eyes

Okay, found some Gerson floor pans locally for a 68 squareback. Anyone able to chime in on the difference in them? Like how it mounts up front where the pedal assembly is and heater channels are my biggest question.

I haven't tried them myself personally, but they've been getting good reviews from those that have used them. More than likely they fit like they would if you were using used OE pans. Some fitting required. Nice score though. Cool

I would suggest that if you are replacing both floor pans that you remove the body from the pan. I did my passenger side with the body on and the Gerson pans fit well but some areas were hard to get to. Just my two cents.....

I agree with Jack. I've seen it done with the body on but it looked twice as hard.

Okay, if I can get this guy to call me back on these, its a go. I plan to remove the body from the pan, yes. Here are my questions.

Say that I do remove the body, replace pans. Heater channels are toast. Rockers may have issues. Now what? Shit metal back ontop of creamy Gerson Goodness? I mean, I'm no welder, but I can figure out how to weld in patches I suppose, but if I'm going to take the time to do this right, I want to do it right, you know?

I'd like to hear your thoughts.
