And the VIN on the body after the fuel tank.

Mexican beetle fuel injection cylinder tins are not the same as German beetle fuel injection tins. The curved sidewall near the firewall is more rounded on the Mexican beetle.
I have to use the old chrome plated tins and have them blasted and powder coated.

I picked up the long block with the bus, and had some help to put it in.
Was not able to get help at the right time to get it out of the bus....
I had to put a floor jack inside the bus, raise the front wheel to allow the engine stand to roll under the bus, then lift one side to get the long block unto the jack, then raise the engine to allow the engine stand pieces to mate..... whew.

Original Mexican beetle long block with 46K miles....
The engine was removed previously to chrome plate the factory tin.
I wonder if this leaked? There was silicone all over the valve cover.

A 2001 Beetle is odometer exempt? Is that because it's brought in from Mexico?
I'm missing that pink paint, man. You make hello kitty sad _________________ Every morning, Greggery drives his little red Volkswagen to the ugly part of town where they keep the government buildings. "Voodn, voodn! Boy it's so hard to find a place to park around here!" |

Whoa.. thanks for pointing that out!! Never noticed curves were slightly different between both Germany/Mexico FI tins. _________________ Be kind to all critters. America's "H8TERZ" can drink sludgy used Motor Oil!

Just going to throw this out there, a non-diesel 2001 New Beetle uses the same filter as your car. I have a '99 New Beetle and a '74 Super with a Mexican long block and I just get a filter for the New Beetle when I need one for the Super.

I dunno about that. I hear that Mexican Beetles used as taxis were driven very hard and not maintained very well. Now one of those brand new Beetles (from 2004 I think) that come up from time to time on the Classifieds, that would be fun to own. But I'm not sure how hard it would be to get it registered here. _________________ Every morning, Greggery drives his little red Volkswagen to the ugly part of town where they keep the government buildings. Tins back from powder coating.. look great.
Chrome still visible on pulley. I had to scrape off the powder coating from the inside of the pulley since it would not fit on the crank with the thick coating..

Looks like a lot of air can escape through spark plug holes if no boot is present...
