Does anyone know where to get a replacement rubber boot for the back of the 110 Volt AC input plug that is mounted on the rear of my '65 Westy? I checked the major VW vendors but could find one. Maybe a third party electrical supply house? |

Do you have a picture of the back and what is the diameter? |

> large hole is about 1.75" ID which attaches to the back of the AC input plug which is in the engine compartment.
> small hole is about 7/8" ID which is for the large white cable from the AC outlet under the table. |

I bet you could match that up by shopping out an RV supply place. Maybe in the trailer plug section. Hubbell marine shore phone inlets have a similar cover on the back in black as well as the Hubbell marine phone cord at each end in yellow. If you have a brake repair shop near you ask if you can search their trash as I'll bet a large diameter truck wheel cylinder dust boot would fit. |

As I think I mentioned in my older post about that part, if you look at it, you can see that it clearly is a suspension boot from some other car from the era.
Good luck figuring out what the part was. If you find something that would work, I'd live to know what it was.
Thanks. |

Not tryin' to bust balls here... but,
I do not think that it is no small coincidence that my Westy has the same thing... in the same kinda "era" specific condition.
I realize that they are crappy pictures, but all I have with me is a cigarette lighter and my Google phone.... please understand.
The ID/OD of the openings are roughly the same, I would have to measure them to be more precise.
If necessary, I will take better pictures when I find the battery charger for my digi-cam.
I have never tried to locate a replacement... sorry 74 Cosa. _________________

I'm sure the boots are original. What I am saying is that I don't think it was an electronic part or a Westy specific part but that back in the day Westfalia found an off the shelf part from a car of another manufacture and used that to cover the live contacts.
I say this because the hole where the wire passes out is huge--much larger than would be needed to allow the wire to pass. It looks like a suspension part that Westfalia found and adapted for this particular use.
So anything with the right ID would work. Trick is to find out what the boot originally was for back in 1964. |
