I'm wondering if anyone knows where I can find some new piping for making door panels. I need to find the ivory color that goes with the red interior on a 57.
Thanks. |

Thanks for the info. As it happens, I did check with that vendor and they replied that they do not have what I need. |

If you have some that is original, but yellowed, you can unstaple it, flip it over, and staple it back on. That is what I did on my '57. Crazy fresh underside is da bomb...... _________________ John Henry

Good idea, thanks for the tip. Mine is a bit too far gone for that, cracked, minor mutilations, etc. |

Off the top of my head, but have you checked out any sites that sell stuff to make guitar amps? They have different types and color of piping for making Marshall amp cabinet clones and what-not. _________________ Jan. 57 rag |

If you can find vinyl or leather in the right colour, you can fold it double over a piece of string to make the piping. This is what my trimmer did on my seats - indistinguishable from original until you are within a few centimetres.

Snort,
have you checked with a quality upholstery shop in your area? So many US cars from at least the late 50's and into the 60's sported vinyl seats that had some sort of piping on the seats if not the door panels a good shop might be able to help you out. Worst case, check with Lenny Copp at West Coast Classics. He makes the best repro interior you looking to repair so, he should have or be able to point you where you need to go for what you need. He's helpful the couple of times I've emailed him resto questions. |

Thanks, yes I did check locally but I have more shops to visit before I'm done. Also, I did get a report back from one Samba person who seemed to know a lot about piping, reported that the material WCC uses is close, but not the right size; I know, best to check with the source on that one but I haven't done it yet.
I am running down a lead on some material online that looks close, but it's embossed instead of smooth. I'll post up pics of some samples if anyone is interested, when they come. |
