not really 2wd doka specific updates - but just recent updates to my 85' 2wd doka!
new badge for...
1.9l ALH TDI mounted at 15 degrees
carat rear seats in place of the rear bench seat
and air conditioning from a vanagon
thanks to the awesome craftsmanship of my mechanic, and for doing all these upgrades ... again.
thanks to jack @ bru auto! |

I've had my Doka (Hans) almost a year. I love driving it and am posting these three pics from a trip to a bicycle event in September, to Kalispell, Mt. from North San Diego County - over 3,000 miles. Bicycles are inside, behind driver. Canoes on top in case there is water. There was. I camped in the back. It's grand!
The mountain thought it was 4:20, not me*....to paraphrase Tom Waits
Rear view, shows bike rack when stowed. Attaches with only the hardware that holds on the gate latches.
This pic shows the bike rack in use. Also visible is the license plate backer I made. It covers up the holes from the original Swedish mounting bolts.
*Tom Waits song: The Piano Has Been Drinking, Not Me...The mountain is smoking(420 reference).....it's a pretty far reach that even some Tom Waits fans may not get without an explanation. Still, for the right person, it may be funny.

Here's something I've become aware of lately. It seems to me that I seldom see new pickups (US brands or Japanese) that are single cabs. We are ahead of our time; having double cabs.
It's going to be hard to get used to being a trend setter!

Bman, did you change your springs in the end?
Wanting to fit GW zero lift springs on my Doka and interested to know what sort of lift they give. |

I would expect at least an inch. I just put them into my Westy and saw a significant lift.
I also did all new suspension bushings and the Bilstein HD Sport valved shocks all around. It is like driving a new vehicle. Expensive, but was well worth the investment to me. _________________ SF

Not yet, and I am going to put the Steve Schwenk springs on my Doka. I suspect at least another inch in height. It has taken me so long because I am knee deep in projects. I just finished the job that gave me the $$ to do the doka front suspension. But before I go ahead with this I need to complete a bicycle build for our local brewery.
I am scheduling a front end bushing replace and spring swap out for one of the fist weekends in June. I will photo document it all and post here around then. Sorry to keep you all waiting, I am very excited about this suspension rebuild.
This weekend I did the shift guide kit repair on the doka, still figuring out the shifting though, can't find second half the time. I swear, shifting was easier before I rebuilt the guides _________________ ~Bryan

Hello all, new to the Doka scene but not to the diesel Vanagon thing!
recently got a Canadian Doka with a 1.9TD (just rebuilt it too!)
and it's going to be my "work truck" down here in Florida.
Learning my way through it as I did on the vans.
Cheers!

Mine!!
I fitted it with a 2l I4 engine for a chap two and a half years ago, and he has only done about 1500 miles since, it came up for sale and i bought it for stupidly low money.
Also own this one
Blue one is fitted with an AAZ. Unfortunately (or not ) there is more money in breaking the blue one as it came with a big brake conversion, enough OE panels in a crate to rebuild the rear end, vindic etc etc
Plan is to paint the vindic to match the Bundeswehr truck and sell the soft back canopy. |

My 83 Doka former fire brigade vehicle.
I've owned it since 2006 - wow has it actually been that long!?!
I added the opening wing windows and the $liding rear window$.

Nice job on the wheels, what kind of threads are you riding on and how do you like them? |
Thanks. These are kumho road venture AT KL 78. 8 ply in 8.5x14 sze. I love the look and the ride. Very stiff sidewall and quieter than my LTX and LT 4's. only thing is, they are a bit bigger than stock and now i want a lift! _________________ 1964 Kombi- http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=640048

I'm having trouble with California in regards to passing smog. Well, that's not really true. My Doka passed the emissions test with no problems but the fact that I got sent to the smog referee has sent me into an abyss of bureaucratic confusion.
It may help me if I know what other folks' Dokas have on the inside of their engine flaps. That is, would you please post pictures of any stock stickers on the inside of the license plate flaps of your Dokas - especially helpful may be ones from California.
Thank you in advance for any photo response.

Here's my 1989 Swedish Tristar. Imported by Autostadt West. I just got done fixing my Syncro that had an unexpected engine failure and am starting the restoration of this Doka.
It's in nice shape in that there is no rust and the interior is super clean. Its got a lot of little dents and dings though. I'm planning for a Subaru engine and 5speed. I may or may not start a restoration thread. I'm not the best at taking pics every step of the way. |
