Thanks . Yes it is a lovely Doka. I couldn't find a splitty crew cab and started a 1987 project..which is still a project. Then I found this 1980.
I'm looking to sell my 65 Splitty (the green one parked next to my Doka), and look at getting a syncro, Multivan, Caravelle, Magnum , a 8/9 seater.
Here's a pic of my 1987 project..

Here's my 1987 firetruck Doka that I just brought in country from Germany.
I am the 4th owner including Volkswagen AG with 45K miles on it.
5 speed gear box. Came out of service from the Schwulper Volunteer Fire Station 10/14 and is in fantastic shape.
Finally after 2 months from purchase date, it arrives at the new home.

I just picked this DOKA up from the owner that purchased it in Sacramento. Funny to see it on this thread from a few years ago. Notice the license plate. Aparently it was used as some sort of rescue vehicle in Sweden before it came to the states.
I have been drooling over these for years and am beyond excited to finally have one. It has spent its last few years in Brooklyn which has not been too kind to it. I'd love to know what happened to the mud flaps!

Bought this truck in April this year. I've owned Aircooled dubs exclusively before this and I'm loving it. It's an 84' with the 1.6 Diesel with a 5 speed. I've since pulled the Audi 18's and gone to 16" Tiguan steels and the bigger tires. New exhaust from the manifold back, hushmat on the interior, peeled off all the poor window tint, changed all exterior lights to LED's and have been building up a part stash for the resto/motor swap.

Nice! How much lift, if any, did you get from the Zero-Lift springs?

About 1.75 or so but I'm figuring that will drop to about 1.5 once I get the interior redone and upgrade the bed with a NATO hardtop.

I'm looking for some help with this DoKa. It belonged to my dad, who passed away recently. I'd like to sell it, but unfortunately don't know much about it. I'm told it runs.
I'm going to to try and find out as much as I can about this car over the next few weeks - what information should I look for? What are the important things to know about it? I've owned and driven VW buses of the 1971 and earlier variety, but I've never even been inside this one. Even the year is a mystery.
I'll update as I learn more. Thanks in advance for help and advice.

If you click on the link in my sig line (M-Plate), it will take you to another web page.
Enter the VIN number there, and it will give you a breakdown on the truck (year, options, etc.).
Hey Raven, are you AT Ansbach, or did you just stop in?
Drop me a PM. _________________ 1990 Feldjäger Syncro AAZ

Welcome to the Samba. My sympathies for the passing of your father, always a trying time.
The information you are looking for will be on a paper sticker mounted to the lower dash below and to the left of the steering wheel. This is called the M-code sticker. It will have the full VIN number of the vehicle, engine/transaxle codes, paint code, and any option codes.
You can then plug those into the decoder mentioned above. With that info you can compare some of the going prices for Dokas in the classified section here on the Samba.
Or you can post a photo of it here and we can help.
Dokas are really great little trucks and a blast to drive. Pretty rare, and always an attention grabber. Rust around the rear bed and wheel wells is a real problem with these however, and can be expensive to restore, so a solid body Doka is always worth more.
The value is going to depend on overall condition so many more photos needed to help you with a reasonable asking price. Judging by the two photos it looks fairly solid though the paint is obviously in need of help.
Some of the parts on it suggest it's a later model and it has a nice set of wheels. Also, black was a very rare color, so kind of unique in that respect if it's the original color.
Any idea how the vehicle made it's way here? They were not sold in America and only in small numbers to Canada.
You may get hit with really low offers to take it off your hands quickly-be careful!
Most Dokas (like yours) were built as basic work trucks, so have no sound insulation and spartan interiors. You may see some listed as "Tristars" these are the luxury version and are much more valuable.
They also came with either a really slow diesel engine or a couple different gas engines, the code will tell which it came with.
Hopefully yours is in decent condition and can be brought back from retirement! Good luck. _________________ Currently:

Finally got New Jersey title and tags. What a pain in the rear that fiasco was! It's been sitting in my garage teasing me since November while I worked out the paperwork.
This thing is an absolute blast to drive.

Beautiful Doka! Looks like you put it work anyway.
Fitting first post, by the way, VW angst beautifully portrayed.

Congrats Keane! What was the hang up if I may ask? Import issues, or local stuff? _________________ '91 Westfalia, Bordeaux Red Pearl 2.1L 2wd Auto

I am actually the second US owner of this DOKA. It was imported from Sweden by Autostadt West sometime in 2013. The previous owner purchased it from them and had it registered in NY. Problem is that his NY title did not have the first 3 digits of the vin listed. NJ would not accept the NY title because of that. I suspect this had to do with how the VIN was listed on the Swedish title even though all of the import/DOT/EPA paperwork correctly listed the full VIN. _________________ -'87 Westy

Update! I've now got the BFG ko2's in a 215/65/16 paired up with the GoWesty zero lift springs an the Bilstein HD's. I've driven about 500km on them now and they have all settled to 18 1/4" to 18 3/8" fender to centre hub. Pleased with the end result. Having the tires I have on now I wish I would have gone a little bit bigger to fill out the arches more as I still have room all the way around without having to clearance anything.
