Please correct me If I am wrong. Factory wheels size for a '65 is 15x4.5....can I upgrade to a custom 16x7 with 205/55R16 without issues?

Want to put a bigger wheel/slimmer tire combo on my VW not too big though.

It depends on what you consider an "issue".

I believe all the early wheels, for type 1, were only 4" wide. The '65 trans, originally, had short axles. If you are looking at wheels such as the Porsche Fuchs 16" you are going to have to watch your backspacing or the tire will hit the springplate. How will you be mounting the wheel to the drum? Adaptors? Different drums? All this is factoring in as to what fits. People have run 6-8" wheels with 215/60R15 and 205/70R15 tires w/o problems. These tires are about 25.5 to 26" tall and the cars are not lowered.

I plan on purchasing the BAD series four wheel disk set from AirKweld. I think I can order them with whatever back spacing setup I want.

I want to drive this thing on the regular, but still want to be looking extra nice....VW look nice anyway, but I want a little extra. So I need to still be able to drive and turn corners without rubbing and such.

You guys are fast....thank you....good starting point to continue my search.
