I have managed to get hold of a new old stock beam and also managed to hold of all the relevant steering controls arms, Now my problem is now its all back together when i turn the steering to the left the wheels turn right and vice a versa.. anybody got any idea's . Confused

Hmm. BD boxes do rotate opposite direction from later split. Using a later box would produce the condition you describe. A picture of your pitman arm, drag link and swing lever might shed some light.

If everything is as it should be with the steering components, it can only be the steering box. Barndoor steering boxes turn in the opposite direction to non barndoor buses

Barclay? Has the box been reconditioned? Whats inside?

the box is what would cause the issue.

Hi thanks for all the replies guys I think i,m getting to bottom of the problem, There are three types of box's for a barndoor, I do have the correct ZF 532 box but I think the the steering column/ worm gear has the wrong direction of rotation, But the steering wheel fits fine, So my question to all you barndoor guru's is ... would the direction of the worm gear be different for a right hand drive as opposed to a left hand drive vehicle ???? cheers all Carl

Yes it would, Barndoors are the opposite to post Barndoor. If your bus is LHD you need to find what would be in a LHD barndoor steering box or a post barndoor RHD wormgear. The cases and covers are also handed...this is a wormgear from a pre 52 lhd barndoor

My sincere apologies for hijacking this thread, but as a BD newbie, I have to ask...what are those 'reinforcing bars' actually called, what is their purpose and were they standard equipment on all barndoors? Thanks.

Sidebar: The amount of info' I'm learning about in one thread here is quite amazing. Very Happy

A bit off your topic but does the NOS beam have no serial # stamped on the right front arm? I am interested to know the answer.
