I have a type 3 engine in my beetle, and cannot find the oil pressure switch.
The hole below the distributor is plugged. Where can it be? |

The type 3 put the oil pressure switch on the oil cooler. _________________ 70 fastback automatic 06 invader |

Thanks for the info. Are the type 3 & beetle coolers interchangable? Mine is mounted behind the fan housing, and difficult to see properly. I am wondering if they used the old one from the beetle |

Beetle oil coolers are different and mount vertical whereas the Type 3 mounts horizontal. _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts

There is an adapter on a beetle. The difference is type three’s put the oil sender on the oil cooler. _________________ 70 fastback automatic 06 invader |

It sounds like the case is not taped for the pressure sensor. I’d guess that when they converted it to an upright engine, they didn’t put a place for the sensor. |
Yup. Most type 1 engines have a place for the oil pressure switch in the boss cast into the side of the case, or on top of the case (my universal case has 2 oil ports there that I had to plug). In your case, you'll have to drill out the material that is blocking the hole, and tap it. I don't know if you could put on an extension tube to get the oil pressure switch outside of the cooling tin to install the switch. You might want to pull the cooling shroud and verify that the PO of the engine used a type 3 oil cooler before you get too far into it. I only say that If you have the "dog house" shroud set up, you'll have an adapter for the oil cooler, that can use either a t-1 style cooler or a t-3 style cooler. And the only real difference between coolers is that the type 3 cooler has a boss welded on for the oil pressure switch.
I hope this helps. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

I made this oil pressure switch stem for my type 3 engine in my Ghia.
