I picked up two sets of seats for a great price (free!) for possible use in my Avenger build.
Any idea what they came from?
I am thinking I will use the ones on the right as they fit the image of the car a little better.
The ones on the left appear pretty old. They have "old" looking leather. They also have a hinge mount up front to allow them to tilt towards the front of the vehicle. I think they would look real good in retro style buggy.
Any ideas what they might be out of?

One on right might be 914 Porsche...

They both look like Porsche, early 911 and 914 respectively. But the914s I have, have a fiberglass shell and no springs just foam pads unless it's from a very early production.

Both those seats have zig-zag springs. I think they look Japanese, maybe British. I would definitely use the left type in a buggy, very period correct.
I believe vintage Porshe seats used tied coil springs like VW seat bases.
These are Porsche seats

Sonett seats were fiberglass shells similar to 914. My first car was a Sonett III and I sure with I still had the spare seats I aquired from a parts car!
The seat on the right is without a doubt NOT 914. I'm thinking italian would be a good guess. The seat on the left looks like old british sports coupe but that's just a S.W.A.G. _________________ www.LoCashRacing.org

The ones on the left do not recline. They do flip foward. Both the seat backs and bases are removable revealing a steel frame.
The guy who gave them to me thought the ones to the right might be from a Lotus Elan but the ones I have seen don't look like that.
The ones to the left are leather, very old leather, and are in real nice overall shape. I think they would look just great in a period style buggy.
I'll post some more pic tomorrow.
Keep the thoughts coming! |

I'm really digging the seat on the right. It is to a 914 seat what Dark Helmet was to Darth Vader

1. Get rid of all that kid crap in the background.
2. Go with the seats on the right.
3. Send me the set on the left!!!

Hey Jeff...some good news!
1. That ain't my crap! That was in the shed of the guy I got them from.
2. I will try to fit them today hopefully.
3. The set on the left will most likely be for sale. I already have a set of Corbeau GTAs and a set of Tenso seats in my closet for my Deserter build.
I have my fingers crossed for the ones on the right. One needs some repair. Hopefully I can get it fixed and maybe add some yellow piping to both seats for less than my right arm. |

The one on the left looks to be a relatively new (70s, 80s) heavy equipment or truck seat. It may be a ford product. It looks like it has a ford ID tag on the under side. The one thing I cant get past is they look like leather. If so they would not be from a truck.
The other one has the "ear marks" of a Lotus until you look at the "S" springs. Lotus would have used light weight materials. The spring system will have been Dupont rubber webbing, spanner or even made of fiberglass. However it does have Jaguar type seat clips on it. My guess would be an after market race seat from Europe made in the 70s. If I had them in front of me I could be more definite. You need to look at the markings on the foam and back side of the vinyl. _________________ Google this.

Tom,
I was hoping you would throw your opinion out there.
Here are some more pics.
Low back seat:
This tab fits into a metal slot in the seat
No markings, no numbers, no tags visable from the underside:
Screws
Metal frame. The back is covered with leather:
With the seat bottom laying in place:
The bottom of the seat back:
The underside of the seat base. This material looks new. There may be some springs underneath the material:
The seat base. I am 99% sure its leather
The tall seat is vinyl I believe. Here is the tilting mechanism. There are no markings, no part numbers, and no tags visible:

Well it looks like both pairs are too wide for the Avenger.
It has a 3" dropped fiberglass floor and a 3" box perimeter frame so I lose a ton of width. The max the seat can be is 16 1/2". Thats really narrow.
That GB car parts site is nice. Their Mamba Baby Cub might work. I am going to measure tonight.
Before I order them does anyone else have any sites I can check out? Seats can really make the car, but I can't do $1000 worth of seats.
So the others will be up for sale. I will probably get them cleaned up and bring them to Terryville if anyone is interested. |

Look at the Race Trim UTV seats. They're about the narrowest suspension seat you'll find and are $280 a pair.
