I know, but I have a cargo loading footprint I gotta deal with. I've lifted them myself too, but I'm older now - lol

I have loaded engines into my Subaru with no problems. I've never done it myself though. No way I would be able to on my own. I'm week and hernia prone! Put some cardboard down too.

No idea, but I can lift a 1600 with no issues.

Old thread here, but my question is related. I know first hand that a type 1 motor will fit in the back of a Forester, but will a type 4 (2.0) fit in my newish Outback? I say yes, buddy is skeptical.

can't do it anymore at 70 but at 50 I could still lift am assembled 1600 long block by myself without a flywheel and heat exchangers. Maybe 350 lbs fully dressed if that. T4 2L is much heavier. Less weight than taking two buddies to the beach.

Takes up a lot of space!

Realize this doesnt help with your subaru, but i guves you a perspective of how much space it takes up

We have a 2016 Subaru Crosstrek. The hatch opening at the floor area is 33”
So no way a fully dressed type4 engine will fit
Muffler and heat exchangers would have to be removed.

Good luck with your engine
Chris

It certainly does--thanks for the pic! Thinking maybe we'll go with Plan B.

The OB is a bit bigger but yeah, I'm beginning to see the girth of the thing. It's actually a friend's engine, so I'm thinking either a small trailer or a friend with a bigger vehicle.

You can load a huge load, like 600 pounds plus, into a hatchback by

Two 2x4x8 foot, a piece of solid plywood

Park 8 feet in front of a car you don’t like

Start with engine on ground, tip sideways , get wood and timers underneath

Now lift light ends onto hatch

Work engine halfway up timbers

Now put timbers on bumper of parked car

Slide her in

I loaded two Vanagon waterboxer engines into the side door of my Bay. Had some brawn to help get them in, but just had my wife's help to get them out. They were fully dressed, only missing the tail pipes which we had to cut off to get them to fit inside.
