I rebuilt the carb and bled the brakes so I could take her around the block. She had the shakes really bad. The PO had replaced the transaxle mount with spliced rubber floor mat. That would explain the bad engine seal alignment. while the engine was out I worked on the apron.

It took a little while, but thanks to some Samba members in the Classifieds I replaced some small missing tin pieces, cooling flaps with linkage and installed a thermostat. The worst part was drilling out the fully packed preheat tube on the intake. Its not in the picture but I ended up drilling a 1/4" hole in the outside of the curve and ran a 12" bit through. The things you got to do sometimes.

Here is a shot of the engine back in the car. New transaxle mounts and bowden tube adjustment, stolen battery from my sons car and she's running nice. Thanks to some nice pictures in the forums on the thermostat linkage and my love for bicycles I was able to fabricate some linkage and a cable to the breather to get the warm air door working.

Will you do mine? Smile Seriously, I have a mangled rear apron and channel for engine seat, and clogged heat riser. do you have any details or pics on the channel to hold that engine seal? Do you think the commercially-available patch panels for that section would work as well as your custom fit?

I'll do yours Chad. The one from KGP&R fits fine. Check out bills 72 vert thread. He installed one I sold him. Not extremely hard. Easier then CIPs exhaust was. Razz

To fabricate the channel I took a piece of flat steel the width of the original channel and bent it around a piece of bar that goes through chain link fencing. You have to grind the bar down some to replicate the width of the seal. Center it clamp it in a vise and work the flat steel around the bar a little at a time. Mine had the curve in it so I formed it around an old 15" wheel to get the contour. Be easy or it'll want to kink on you.

Hi sir. I was wondering what those vice grip like clamps are called? my C clamps arent wide enough and these look like they would work well.

thanks
