I'm sure you have access to an inspection scope. Why not drill a few holes in the floor and check out the pans before you get carried away? Easy to weld up a couple of tiny holes as opposed to ripping off the pans, right? _________________ "My biggest worry is that when I die, my wife will sell all my parts for what I told her I paid for them"-Jon

When a friend of mine started to take his Binz apart he found welding rods attached to some panels. It looked like they were left there from Binz. They were not very long. |

Yea man pull those pans...don't leave the mess in there for later. It's a slippery slope but it has to be attacked now while it makes sense.
I did #148 before any of the green or AC metal existed and it was a large project. Now it is pretty simple to order and wait for your semi close fitting panels to arrive. NOS or hand made off patterns using tracing paper was how my truck was put back together.
Good luck! _________________ www.blastserv.com

Okay okay, well....
Belly pans are going to come off.
Don't even think they are worth saving...
The work it would take to remove them and not damage them for re use it too much. Time = money if you know what I mean.
So, any tips for removal of them?
here is a few pics
Ive never gotten this deep into a DC let alone the Binz so Im learning the horse of another color.
Is a B pillar on a Binx the same as the B on a cargo door bus?
Mine is toast along with the inner hinge attach point. _________________ 58 Binz DC #151 "Nacho"

The B pillar metal should be the same as a single cab. That's what the Binz was originally based on. |

Since you need a channel for the weatherstripping you might want to order a bus pillar and modify it as needed. The bus pillar would probably work better than a PU one because of the rear door opening.
Looking at your pictures, the pillar looks wider than a bus. You may need to widen the bus one but it should be a good basis for your fabrication. There is a scary amount of Binz metal there which will mean massaging some funky green. But that just makes it more interesting! _________________ "My biggest worry is that when I die, my wife will sell all my parts for what I told her I paid for them"-Jon

okay, okay, okay.....
finished allll the other peoples buses for a while. FINALLY back to the binz.
deleted the bullet turn signals from the nose, making my own.
about finished the nose and inner valance install.
working on removing the belly pans still. I think I can save the outriggers and jack points.
Have to re-order the rear corners and battery trays, used them on the last customers DC.
Been working on the front beam. Have all the little bits that attach to the beam cleaned up and ready for paint.
Now working on the beam itself. Have to buy the adjusters and bushings but I can get it cut down and shortened in the meantime.
Soaked the dash switches in some contact cleaner and plan to black out the knobs.
Getting excited to be back on my own bus for a while.

No sir. A friend of a friend did it for me. Friend one owed me for some work to his car and so I just traded the shop sign work for the labor cost.
Turned out way better than expected!
No I cant really get her weld, was just for fun.
For the Binz...
I think If I keep posting progress it will keep me motivated. Im trying to put in at least an hour a day doing anything to it. Sometimes its night and I dont feel like waking the wife so no cutting and grinding, just little stuff to make forward progress.
lucky me, no broken springs!
un cut side, gets cut tonight.
already started hacking this apart
some bits coated with some deep black

Here we are working on the long left side panel.
This is not a fun job.
It has inner structure welded to it and it was near impossible to see where it was spot welded.
So, Im doing in the hard slow way... one little part at a time.
Ill be able to save this outrigger and jack point but the inner wheel well above the top hat is wasted like usual.
This should be fairly easy to close up.

Looks like it was delivered to the BINZ folks as a non dual treasure chest SC... makes sense.
Them gents at the BINZ factory really liked the lead.
Just fill them gate attach holes!
is this where the saying "get the lead out" came from?
Easily one of the most time consuming jobs ive done to a bus. Removing the Left side long panel. All that inner structure has a buncha spot welds you just cant see because they are hella smalll.
PITA!!
