I’ve never seen enough of them to tell if this one is unique, another brand of machine, or a real one that has been heavily modified.

No kidding Joe. He surprised me when he came up with that psychedelic paint job.

I’m supposed to help him wire the engine tomorrow so we’ll see how it goes.

Hi everyone. Looking at my buying my first buggy tonight. This is what I am looking at. I have not been able to find anything that has the same taillight configurations. Any idea where to start my search on the manufacture? Thanks.

It is a Sandwinder. One of the Manx Clones. Good looking buggy.

The tail lights do not determine the make of the body because so many options are available it is truly a builders choice of what tail lights to install. The rear comes solid, and you cut in/install what you like.

It's not a buggy but it is vw pan based kit. Anybody recognize this one? Appears to have a targa style top and regular doors.

I think you are correct, it's just missing the engine cover.
The angle makes it look longer than it is. Funny thing, I've always liked the look of the SR2, kind of like a frog eyed sprite. Thanks!

By the look of the tail light and rubber bumper it more than likely a not a original Meyers Manx SR. There was two companies that made the SR after Meyers Manx closed. Karma Coach Works was one of them. One of them made improvements to the door hinges. And I not remembering at this time which one came up with the SR2 name.
BL3Manx know the history better then most.

https://www.carparts.com/blog/ahead-of-the-curve/

"Karma Coach Works then took on the S.R., calling it the SR2, making kits at least through 1974, with Meyers improving the top, side curtains and door hinge. Overall, it was produced in California, Oklahoma and then Maryland for more than 25 years!"

lol Oklahoma! I had to go to Hawaiian Gardens, CA to get a speedster. Laughing

Great info there that you linked.
Always wanted one, just cannot justify getting one. California car registration is not cheap.
One of Winnie's son in law has the SR that Dave Deal owned. It has a 911 engine in it. Last I talk with him it was a long term restoration

Interesting body but what really caught my eye is that it's on a Super Beetle chassis! I see the strut towers, I wonder how the body was cut up to leave that support in place and functional.

If I tried this, I would certainly leave ALL of the original front structure in place, and leave only the skin of the fiberglass body on top of the structure. Those struts need all the support they can get. This Fargo looks like the struts may have been left with minimum support. I'll bet it flexes a lot. Maybe it does better than I think it would. I have to wonder if the original builder even knew what a Super Beetle was.

This is one of my next projects ... a while away ... a COUGAR BUGGY
Or I guess what it looked like in the 1990's.
Sorry about quality of pictures.
Rear wing is not part of design but was added by previous owner.
Last pic shows rear end, and my bonnet style. Bonnet attaches as separate piece.
My nose has flat ridge, that you can see slightly see, apparently later had sharper one, about size of a thumb (blue buggy), running down the middle.

Apparently mine won best in show in 1994, or 1995, at a VW Club WA show and shine, or DOTVW.
Owner was a member of the Volkswagen Club Western Australia (WA). (see sticker windscreen)
Apparently the engine was setup for NOS.
Had a thumping sound system.

I am finding very hard to find anything on this particular buggy make.
Anyone.?
Or
Any History of the COUGAR Dune or beach buggy, buggies.
Who made them, ads etc.?

ANY HISTORY much appreciated.

I believe you have a "Tuff Tub" made by Perfect Plastics Industries. Several other companies made very similar 4 seat T buggies. I know it's not a Berry Plastiglass T-4. They have a distinctive curved body shape where the windshield attaches.
