There is no definitive thread on the colors used for the Deluxe rear deck carpet so I decided to start a thread for use in the Bus FAQ.

Please post any information or photos you have and I will update this first post.

Wolfsburg West lists the possible colors as:
Tan, Oatmeal (2-tone tan and white), Grey, and Charcoal
However, I think there are more possibilities.

My best guesses:

Barndoor Deluxe, same as 55-58 Buses?
'55 Deluxe:

55-58 use Beige Grey.
This is based on Neal's '58 restoration. Information seen here

59-64 also uses Beige Grey carpet?

65-67 may vary by interior panel colors.

67 Deluxe with reproduction tan carpet with mesh platinum interior:

(Original color was grey according to post later in this thread)

Other attributes:
* On the 63 and earlier Buses, the carpet travels straight across - there is no cut out for the rear hatch lower latch (see image above)
* 64 and later are shaped around the wider rear hatch lower latch (see image above)
* Walk-through Buses have carpet that is shaped around the walk-through spare tire well (see image above)

I recently picked up the light gray carpet from WW, I got the cheaper synthetic one:

I was supposed to get the charcoal color for my interior, but liked the light gray better.

This is the one I ordered:
Synthetic - http://www.wolfsburgwest.com/cart/DetailsList.cfm?ID=221863405AAZ

Square Weave - http://www.wolfsburgwest.com/cart/DetailsList.cfm?ID=221863405AZ

67 Deluxe has Tan to match the Mesh platinum (Gold) interior

Tan only matches the incorrect color of the repro Mp/Pm panels. Originally, the mat was gray to match the (correct color) platinum. I got one from W.W. for the '66 dlx and it looked great.

I can see the gray matching the original platinum (silver) color quite well (in my mind).

On a side note Dan/EB...does anyone know if TMI has expressed interest in revisiting the platinum color on their vinyl for the correct hue?

Aha! Found it. Here's a pic of an original rear carpet for mesh platinum / platinum silver. Note the repro TMI color different on the recovered front and middle seats:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

FWIW, I contacted TMI about doing a real repro of an un-faded/burnt platinum silver. I even said I could send them a sample, but they wanted a huge swatch, I could only send them a square inch piece from the back of a panel, so I never followed through. I think they'd do it if they realized there is a market for it. It always seemed a shame for people to have to put in the brown seat covers in nice original buses, though it does match burnt original panels, which might have been the point.

I replaced my carpet in my 67 with Wolfsburg West. I was hoping they would of made the replacement carpet the same length as the original.

I found the same result- it does not wrap completely around the front of the filler- and the wrap down over. I immediately guessed it would have been because the WW seamster/seamstress team cannot easily make the tight bends with their binding- and they wanted to fully bind the carpet across the front as well. I hope that's the case anyway- and not a reflection of disinterest in faithful patterning.

I'm not close to my bus to measure right now but my guess is the yield off the roll and the fact that squareweave isn't cheap carpet. If you save X amount of carpet off each job it would add up to $$ for WW

I would email them and ask for a corrected one.
They may have the wrong pattern or they may have made a mistake.

I have seen another one where it was sewn wrong, including part of it being wrong for the year Bus it was destined for, and as far as I know it was replaced.

I am considering buying WW grey square weave for my 65 mesh gray deluxe. When looking at the drawing in their catalog it does not show an indention for the rear hatch lock striker. Can anyone confirm whether the actual carpet has this provision like the original?

I bought the carpet for my '64 13-Window years ago and it had the correct indent.

You could email them and ask if you want to be sure.
