|
|
Hi all
As my handle suggests, I am a musician, and also somewhat of a hippie since my dream is to get a VW diesel bus and tour around the country in it. I started writing a song about how much I love my theoretical bus, but since I don't have it yet, the song's a little short on material.
Was wondering if any of you kind souls would like to share a story? A common problem? An uncommon problem? Nickname? In exchange for any help you can offer, I will send you an mp3 of the finished song (assuming that it doesn't totally suck).
I'm looking forward to hearing from you!

Start reading/searching the forums...especially the bus ones. There's a wealth of stories already documented there.
Good luck with the song. |

Highly descriptive objective writing would be the best way to get your song material…just put your pen to the paper and write…be descriptive with all of your senses…don't stop writing…even if its crazy…let it flow, if it doesn't fit for this song idea…it may work for others.
This is how I write my tunes…just tell the story through your minds eye, a good song is something we can all relate to. The close proximity, the smell, the lack of power, the lack of heat, the head lights growing brighter as you rev the engine…the sun burnt speaker rattles as you listen to your favorite song…that pebble in the tire tapping its steady rhythm as you feel the wind push you to the white lines of the highway….
I could go on, but hopefully theres an idea there you could use….keep writing and keep a small recorder with you at all times…never know when a melody or something comes to mind…I write my best stuff when I wake up…left over dreams. |

This is an interesting proposal!
I too am a musician, I'll do some brainstorming and submit some things I've come up with. Do you have any chords you're working with? A key? A melody? _________________ -Tony

Perhaps look in the "Stories" forum on this site, as thats where all the stories are posted. should keep you busy for awhile, and give you more material than you could ever possibly use. |

This is just like Woody Guthrie. He sat in his parent's basement and asked people to tell him stories too. |

A recent story,
I passed a VW bus a week or so ago, going the opposite direction while I was on my way to the Oregon Coast.
I was going through the mountains on the "Sunset" Highway number 26, it is only 1 lane in each direction for much of the way.
The bright yellow bus was climbing, I was descending. There were probably 24 cars behind it, all wishing it would/could go faster, and anticipating the passing lanes, which are few and far between. |

Carley-You should definitely get a bus, or at least spend some quality time with one for this project of yours. And if you do wind up getting one, (Diesel or not) you better post some pictures of this theoretical muse! _________________ -Tony

A hippie with a diesel bus... Something about that just doesn't sound right.

Concentrate instead on writing melodies. The lyrics are most often the easiest part. |

The OP made 1 and only 1 post... total. Hasn't been back, so I think the advice being givin is moot. Maybe busy writing songs about travels in a Ford diesel VAN? |
