Howdy all, well it's not like I didn't have my hands full with the 57 oval, but I came across a 65 gem that I just couldn't pass up. It was advertised less than one mile from my house 'as the crow flies', so it was "in the neighborhood" . Car has been in what I would call a 'significant' , but not 'major' accident. Two owner car, sounds like it was based in Oregon for the majority of it's life, and up here in Washington for the last 8 years or so. Odo reads 15,XXX miles, I'm assuming that's 115k miles but who knows. VIN reads 115479XXX so this is an early 1965 I assume? The interior is all original and there is practically no wear on the seats and for sure they are original, as are the door panels as far as I can tell! Has a rebuilt 1600sp in it, less than 10k miles, probably less than 2k miles, as it hasn't been driven much as all since the motor was rebuilt and installed two years ago per seller. Has not been licensed since 2009. Very OG car: interior, glass (all uncracked and perfect), radio, pans, hood, decklid, fenders, etc are OG. Very minimal rust. Heater channels are very solid. Drivers side pan has a hole in it. Slight bubbling at the bottom of the doors and in a few spots on the rear quarters. Roof perfect. Very straight passenger side. Anyway, I'll let the pics tell the story. Any guesses on what it's worth? Surprised

The bad:

After the wreck, the OG 1965 spare tire was put on the drivers front. Yes this is the original f'n spare tire on this rim. Wow.

The front driver's quarter is hosed, and the driver's door has a dent which I can fix. Door shuts, opens flawlessly.

Thanks man, yes I feel very fortunate. Of course , knock on wood, talk to me after I get into it a bit more. Another thing is there are no brakes, so I'll have to go thru those too.

my brakes recently stopped working, but my car isn't really in driving condition at the moment. the tranny needed a rebuild, so it's just sitting until i get the transmission back. i guess i could fix the brakes since i can't really drive it anywhere...

Was that on craigslist? If it's the one I'm thinking, good buy. Just some body work and ready to roll. Very Happy

Yes it was on CL. The goal was to get it home yesterday so I could go shopping for parts today at the big Seattle Vintage Meet swap area!

The plan is to get this thing back on the road, keeping it as bone stock as possible! Not sure how far I'm gonna go with improving stuff yet (i.e. new door and window rubber, etc etc); time will tell.

here in texas that car would run you $3,000 - $4,800.00

Depending on disposition of the Title, and what the accident did to the undercarriage, suspension and steering.

Anything under $3k and I'd jump on it.

Thanks guys. NO steering damage, e.g. control arms, tie rods, neopolitan hat, beam are all good. Well, ok, I have not inspected closely, just from looking under the car. I hope to do so tonight.

Today at the Seattle Vintage Meet I scored on a bunch of parts to fix the car. will post some pics soon.

Title is in hand, and clear! That is almost the best part!

One more little tidbit, I figured out the engine is a HO 1500cc engine, not a 1600. No biggie. More to come!

You mean as the car sits, or after repair? If it's as it sits, I am embarrased to say what I paid. Embarassed Exclamation

Well I got a little bit more into this car, and I have to say, I am excited. You'll see why.

Took the front fenders off, here's what I got boys and girls:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Not too much damage in and around the fuel tank, but definitely the apron and spare tire tray are nice and crinkled. We are going to try and pull it out first, see how it goes:

So remember the brakes don't work, as in the pedal goes all the way to the floor. More on that later. So see that brake lining? I thought to myself that there's a bit more left in these shoes, but since I'm in here I'll just go ahead and go through everything like shoes, cylinders, rubber hoses.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I discovered that the old brake shoes on the front are date stamped 1982!!!! Holy scheit.
August 30, 1982:

Here's the right rear brake set up:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

The date stamp is on these shoes is 6-21-1963! These could be the original rear brakes on this car. Shocked
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

And look how thick they are. Hmm, ODO reads just over 15K.
What do you guys think......is there any chance those rear brakes could last 115,000 miles? The linings look brand new! I guess its in the realm of possiblility, but when you look at how solid this car is, and consider that the OG seats have like NO, NADA wear on them, you have to think it's possible........THIS CAR COULD HAVE 15,XXX original miles on it?!?!?! Thoughts???? Shocked Idea Question

I don't doubt it at all, maybe it was hit early in its life and the original owner didn't want to or couldn't afford to fix it so they left it as is and was too embarrassed to drive it, so it sat? Looks like a nice car, good find.

Thanks Pork. Anything's possible, although I have to remind myself that it really doesn't matter unless I can document there are only 15k miles. Two downsides are that the car DOES NOT have the original engine -- it's a 1967 1500sp, and it's had one repaint in the same color which is wierd.

Anyway, I got the passenger side brakes redone last night and hope to finish the driver's side this weekend. Want to be able to move it easily and hell, even tool around the neighborhood in it! LOL

I wouldn't worry about proving anything to anyone, unless you plan on selling I say forget about it and drive the wheels off of it.

I have a 61 standard with 47000 miles... broke my heart when I found the repaint but hey, you still have a great car!

What kind of shocks came on the car? I am thinking the front are original, but those rears look newer, or at least cleaner.

LOL, yes good point the fronts are black in color. Wonder if they replaced the rear shocks when the replaced the motor...who knows. I'll be tearing into this more next week, e.g., finish the brake job, I need to fix an issue with the generator, and of course, start to straighten out all that metal.
