Well, I'm a totally newbie to the VW world and to this site. I saw this bus on craigslist for $595 and expected it to be in terrible condition. The guy owned it for the last 26 year. It's a westfalia, 2.0FI Auto, 98k miles with factory AC !!

I saw it and had to have it so I offered $500 and on the trailer it went. The fuel system was shot. Fuel pump locked up and filter clogged.

So here she is.... the places i need advise is what I need to do to fix the rear side window sills and the sliding door. I don't think I need to cut and weld but to simply slap some chemicals on in it inside and out, prime, fiber bondo, and go. I'm no expert so I'm turning to u folks ! Btw the largest hole is in the sliding door. About a quarter in size. I took the inside panel off and all looks good inside, just a little surface rust on the very bottom edge.

I'd buy a good used door to replace your whole door or weld in a good used replacement section into your door.

I'll look around for a door....

do you have any advise on the rear side window sills? I can't seem to find any replacement metal for them online. I could always just plasma cut it out and make a strip to go back in, but was looking for any decent options before I started cutting.

Post a WTB (want to buy) ad with pics of your damaged areas you want to replace. A good Sheet Metal Shop can fab up replacement pieces too. Don't cut anything Yet, unless you are a good sheet metal man/welder!

I can cut and weld no problem. Here's a set of fenders I built for a jeep wrangler rock crawler. I have a CNC plasma table too so cutting sheet metal to go back in is a breeze. I just didn't want to cut out the sills if the rust treatments and fiber bondo was a good solution. I'm always scared that there is not a 100% guarantee that i can prevent the inside of the weld from rusting. Here in Fla I think the rust starts before you think about grinding off any paint in the first place.

I have a miller 252 and old school lincoln Idealarc 250/250 HF tig.

Well, I've seen lots of people Here, who fabbed/welded/finished/painted nice replacement pieces from scratch for their VW's! Eastwood sells a spray in wax treatment for hidden places.
