|
|
Hello, my name is babysnakes and I'm a Baywindowholic. I just bought a '69 single cab. She is rather crusty, but the frame and undercarriage look solid. The PO was going to hack it into an electric vehicle and lost interest. It came with new rear wheel arches and rear corners. It was taken apart for resto. and should have all the parts. It was delivered from San Diego today. Within the next week or so she will be going down to Miami for body soda blasting and underside sand blasting. I already have a body man set up for the task ( he does alot of VDubs for the local clubs). I will need to be contacting Gerson for more panels. This will be a lengthy project. I was going to resto. the '72 but it became my DD. So here she is.
I will post more pics later.
Thanks Busdaddy for the consultation. |

Better you than me brother. That looks like a labor of love and a whole lot of it. Good luck. Seems like shipping was pretty fast. How did the title thing work out for you? _________________ Lead Mechanic: San Diego Air and Space Museum

Shipping was 4 days. The title was covered, all fees were paid in advance a couple of years ago. Joe submitted the paper work gratis and it should arrive any day now. I'm going through boxes of parts. Man you can fit a ton of stuff in the treasure box. |

Pics at home. Lots of parts.
All this fit in the treasure box.
3 of these books I've never seen.
Looks like I need the turn signal switch and a few other bits. |

Hey bud, you unnecessarily wasted a lot of money on shipping. You could have dropped it off here in AZ and saved a couple thousand miles of transport . Let me know what the girls are now thinking of their obsessed dad.
Have you zeroed in on all the plans for the finished build? Hope you bring lots of pics this fall.
Obviously that first picture wasn't at your house. There is one tall giveaway. _________________ 71 Superbug

I decoded the M-Plate today. The 2nd line down was blank. Produced on Nov.12 1968. Delivered to Honolulu out of Jacksonville. That's Germany to Florida to Hawaii by VW, then some PO shipped it to California then I shipped it to Florida. The interior was dark beige leatherette. Here is a tell tale sign of the OG color.
It looks to be Lotus White. A pic from The Samba.
Hope to get there in a year. |

Well here are some more pics. I got the tranny out yesterday.
She was rearended at one time, you can see the apron ears don't align properly and the corners are full of bondo.
Looks like a small plate is missing below the fuel tank. What is this missing part?
One of the PO's was lock hasp happy.
PO used self tapping screws on all four corners of both treasure chest doors to secure them for shipping.
Does anyone know what this hole is? It does not look like a hacked hole, but it does not make sense to me.
The flatbed picking her up today to bring to the body shop.
The body guy gave her a good look over.
He said we will probably sand blast the bed and treasure chest floors and under carriage. And chemically strip the rest. He is going to strip the bondo the PO did, check the welds and Duraglass the areas.I'll be going there once a week to check progress and take pics. The body guy I'm using specializes in ACVW's so I think I'm in good hands. |

no plate that i can tell. the fuel tank hangs down there a bit. there was suppose to be a foam seal on the bottom of the tank where it passed thru the floor. i can't wait to see the progress _________________

Yep, go look at the floor of a bus under tha back seat then under the tank, that flat spot to the right of center is cutout on a truck like the hole surrounding the tank outlet on a bus. Your's doesn't look terrible under there compared to many The hole in the back of the cab may have been for a dome light or CB antenna in the canopy/topper that the hasp on the rear gate likely was used to latch., VW didn't put it there.
Looking good so far. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Well I went against my better judgment and bought the SC with out a title. The PO provided mucho paper work and it seemed not to be an issue, but it was. After posting in General Chat a knowledgeable and helpful Sambanista (Joe) stepped up to the plate and my title from California arrived today. The Samba never ceases to amaze me. |
