my 1954 bug came with this short strait shifter and wood knob. The top of the shortened stick is threaded for the knob. i think the carpet set is an aftermarket idea and the boot has all the stock components under it.

Ever see this setup before?

That's for an Okrasa shifter. The Okrasa shifter is a Chromed metal sleeve that fits over the standard length Pre 55 shifter and aids in selecting reverse.

Looks to be a regular 1953-55 shifter that a previous owner cut in half to suit his/her driving style or custom appeal

is it still 10mm shaft? if so id say its been cut down.
if it is 12mm it is a late model shifter. it will bolt in and work just fine.

my 55 came with a late shifter. i had bought the correct shifter for it and changed it out but went back to the shorter shifter.
i also had a 54 that had the stock shifter cut off and re-threaded some time in the 70s
so it must have been pretty common back in the day to shorten them up.

I had a '54 that had the shifter cut short too. It wasn't threaded. It had a circular wooden knob that had no threads in the hole that fit over the shaft.

Now i think it was a cut-down version of a stock strait shifter and threaded to facilitate the screw-on knob. The guy i bought the car from bought the car in the mid 90s and said the shorter stick was in the car along with the flat gas pedal. He just left it all in there.

The flat gas pedal is out as i really liked the roller pedal in my last bug.

i just might put the stock strait shifter in and use the wood knob. It is worn smooth and feels comfortable...will keep the shortie in the event i want to go back to it...

My 54 shifter looks like it was shortened as well. Can someone measure
a stock un-molested shifter for it's overall length?. I wish to repair the shifter
to stock height... Or source another.

Bump.
Someone also cut my straight shift down. Can someone please provide measurements for a stock one?

Thanks!

I have several 1953-55 shifters on hand, they all are the same length. Measurement is taken from the end of the threads (top of shifter) to the top edge of the fulcrum cup. Approx 11-1/2”
