I'm in the process of rebuilding my generator and in the book it reccomends cleaning the armature with "trichloroethylene or similar solvents". I can't find TCE anywhere in my area, so does anyone know what else will work? Thanks!

I really want to find something that I can soak it in to get deep down where a brush or rag could never get...

Methylene chloride, chloroform, carbon tetrachloride would all be similar. But like the trichloroethylene and other solvents used years ago for stuff by dry cleaning places, all are somewhat hazardous (but nonfammable).

I think I'd try denatured alcohol, acetone, maybe aerosol brake cleaner. But make sure all has dried before rebuilding the generator.

Trichloroethylene was one the better electronic cleaners but like it always is the good stuff has to be taken off the market. Typical electronics cleaner of today shouold do fine.
