Who's is this John, I like the cabinets. Great idea, wishing I had the plans.

Considering a hightop conversion on my syncro - also considering a poptop. Can any of you hightop folks comment on wind crossloading? Any scarier than regular Westies? Does having the hightop affect your mpg much?

Thanks,

Brian,

I have diesel 2WD, adding the hightop actually helps with cross loading (at least the TimberTech tops). Not much more sail from the side, but sloped peak tends to let it wash over easier. Make sure your front end bushings are nice and stiff.

I lose about 2-4 MPG into a headwind, but only at interstate speeds.

Plans ??? Good luck with that Matt - the folks who do these interiors in the UK are VERY proprietory with their work.
However, there is a spirit of comraderie and helpfullnes amongst those who have put tops on on this side of the pond. For noiw, however, you'll have to take a good look at the pics, decide what you like, and then begin - cardboard templates and mock ups - prototypes out of cheap wood, make adjustments then go for it with nice wood.
Last I heard you were going to paint Zeno - how is that going?

Well, we left on our planned trip to Colorado on the 8th of July. Everything was going well ... until I fried a wheel bearing. The good news is that the left front spindle wasn't borked beyond repair and I didn't role the van. Beyond that there wasn't a lot of good news however. I have a pile of parts and paint waiting for me to complete those projects.

We just completed our move to Colorado. Zeno is about 200 miles away right now, but I should be getting him up here before too long. Once that happens I'm hoping to spend some time on the front end, shocks, springs and wheels. Then the paint, but I think I may be delaying that work until the spring.

I'll post some more photos when I get my van a little closer. So far so good Smile

I just scored my Van-cafe bumpers and they are sweet! They are beefy for sure and are very well built. If you are thinking of getting a pair "do it" they are so worth it.

Hey - great looking bumpers - just got a rear one for myself - it'll either go on the hightop Vdubaru or onto my current project - the Stealth Van - German military diesel '88 transporter with 18K miles only - getting an AHU TDI and a 5 speed gearbox, intercooler, vnt turbo etc etc - the hightop for it will be painted an egg shell matte black, black windows etc etc. It'll look great, if you can see it.

The factory hightop roof for the hightop 'kastenwagen' - shown here on my Syncro ambulance.

I'll soon be converting it to use a Westy poptop bed and roof locker as the layout is basically the same.

I agree - it is disappointing http://canadianhightops.ca/newsupdates.html
but I thought it would be fair to let people know in advance and to remind folks that there are still tops available at current prices.

Well It is getting closer to winter here in the US and I am starting to get super pumped for winter camping and resort and backcountry snowboarding. I hope many of you around the world are feeling it too. If you have great winter camp pics of your high roof campers please post them!

I'm delighted to report that for the first time a couple of years we did NOT see this one this morning while returning from our park walk. I stopped in to inquire and the young lady at the counter told me it had sold, but she did not know if the buyer is local or what the selling price was. Well, hooray for the new AW owner and I hope we hear from him/her someday. Way to go, whoever you are, for finally rescuing this van!

Some pics of my buddies Reimo syncro 16 inside pics. These things are sweet! The build quality on them is right up there with Westfalia's. I think he is running a 1.6 D in it.
