Hi guys. First post. Will intro myself properly soon on a new thread but really wanted to show my Get away van hardtop after seeing all those others. It still needs lots of work but finding the samba has been the greatest tool I could have ever imagined. Thanks.

Okay, I've posted about this one before but this new thread seems like it might be the best way for this poor little van to find a home. I saw it driving around the North Side of Richmond VA a few years back and then it turned up at a muffler shop in that area, where it has been parked for about two or three years now.

One Sambanista asked me for the contact and got in touch with the shop where he was evidently told the price is "$4000 and not a penny less." However, that was a couple of years back. The van has been moved around the lot (as you can see from the various positions in the pix) but has had nothing more done to it, as far as I can tell. It's an '82 aircooled, automatic AdventureWagen with air conditioning. It has decent tires and an unmolested interior, no rust that I can see and fewer dents and scratches than my own '87 Westy, and mine is in pretty good shape. Someone REALLY needs to buy this thing and give it the caring home it deserves.

I'd love to have the top for my own van, but this thing is way too nice to part out and I can't afford the time, space and expense to do that anyway, so I'm throwing this out there again. SOMEBODY GIVE THIS VAN A HOME!!!!! It's parked at Headlights to Taillights on Lakeside Avenue in Richmond. Google it. Buy it. Treat it right. Please.

Does anyone know of any examples of ducting work-arounds that would allow me to retain AC functions up front with a big ol hole in the center section? I can sort of envision how it could be done, but I'd love some pics. My life would be empty and meaningless without AC

Mikey9, Can you give any details (source, method of attachment, cost etc.) about the rack on top of your hightop? I am planning something similar for mine.

I thought about for quite a while.
That picture of the center tunnel adventurewagen is a joke,it's not coming from anywhere Laughing

I'm pretty sure you can fit a 1984 (and before AC) or a doka AC model that is above the front seat heads, but you will have to modify the storage rails on either side.

I wanted to do that to give space back in the ceiling rear cabinet taken by the AC stuff Evil or Very Mad

this happened august 6th in the Benabbia tunnel in Europe,it's a German camper Westfalia high top Confused 2 injured drivers.

Not a joke, its a very nicely done aftermarket install of an AC in the front upper section of the adventure top.

Here is a pic of Tom Lengyel's syncro AW with an SVX motor. That rack is huge.

That setup is stock for an adventurewagen. The condensor is located in the front storage area. The hoses come up through the pillars. A really nice setup.

A question for all you high-top owners, especially the North American High-Top made by Timber Technicians - what kind of overhead clearance issues have you experienced? Obviously the van won't fit in a garage, etc, but I'm asking about pulling into and out of campsites, accessing remote campsites, filling up at the gas station, and that sort of thing.
Has the high-top limited the places you can reasonably go?
Asking because I'm strongly considering this conversion for my '86 Westy.

The Vintage Air In-dash unit is pvery successful - takes up less space than the Behr version too.

Agreed, that would be a more modern approach to dash-mounted climate control...but that's not happening anytime soon. I was envisioning something like a C-shaped duct that skirted the opening in the roof. Anyone seen something like that?
