How are the stock heaters, I noticed a lot of praise for the Propex heaters. The one in my van I have not seen or noticed when looking at Westes. is that a european style one? |
I have no idea what brand heater you have, but it looks like one of the RV type furnaces. It most likely runs off the propane tank instead of petrol or diesel like some of the Westy heaters.
I would wait and see how it works before deciding to change. The biggest problem I foresee might be getting replacement parts if it breaks down. If it is shot there are many RV/marine style furnaces available you could replace it with, it will depend on fitment.
The Propex is always an option, but again, a RV type may be a better fit with what you already have. Depends on whether you want to keep the vents on the outside of the van. Personally I'm not a fan of the big open vents of that style heater (and fridge) and would consider welding up those openings and using lower profile options. (Truckfridge or chest type fridge, Propex, etc.)
All depends on money. You can easily spend a couple thousand making those changes. _________________ Currently:

Any folks on this thread have any experience with or thoughts on the Fiberine Bubble top (https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=427052)? The aesthetic doesn't bother me. I'm looking at converting my 7 passenger to a hightop through them. It'd be great to get standing room specs and to hear about how it weathers over time. |

Here is my contribution to this thread, a hightop Reimo and GL syncro. I might add a hightop to the syncro someday..

Those look very similar to the Getaway Van tops. Is that a similar mold? I like those tops.

Oh boy? Someone stacked 5 tops onto a van without strapping them down and then hit the freeway. It's no surprise that one flew off the stack. If there was justice it would have landed on the idiot who thought that was a good idea.

You’re not giving them any credit for strapping the van to the truck. _________________ - Jim

Anyone in the Portland, OR area have a Coast Mountain High Top that I could see in person? A possible trip up to BC this month probably isn't happening for me, then I get into a bunch of other travel, and I'd like to sort out whether I'd like one or not before doing some other work in between the trips. _________________ ‘86 GL Syncro Weekender w/ Subaru EJ25

There is no "associative property" with strapping. _________________ '87 Westy in Wolfram Grey Metallic |
