This is a total last minute trip. My girlfriend has the next 4 days off so we are headed from Grass Valley to the lost coast in about an hour. Is the south entrance to usal exit 90.91 on hwy 1? just looking at some notes I have taken down from here in the past. The syncro isn't ready for the trip so we are taking our 2wd TDI. any spots we have to see?
Thanks |

Yes it is on Hwy.1. Watch for rednecks and their dogs if you go to the southern campground...see thread from a couple of months ago... |

> Watch for rednecks and their dogs
the incident referred to was a dog on dog attack, and belligerent drunken owners of the attacking dog
they were in a Chevy Pick Up with the plates 15%$# F
if you see them, report it to aswah, he has reported them to the sheriff and they are officially banned from USAL, but there is no enforcement there.
madspaniard was also at USAL that day, and also reported being charged by a pit bull. He had the presence of mind to get his kids and family inside the van, until the dog owner caught up, saying his dog loves kids..
I think you should have a walking stick handy.
not to hit the dog with, nor the owners, just to keep the dog at bay
I tested my walking stick on a bulldog that got into my yard yesterday.
He was barking at me and advancing on me when I shouted to scare him away. He was not scared by my voice.
I then pointed my walking stick straight at his face and walked toward him. He ran away a few steps and stopped and barked again. I advanced again, still with the point of my stick as his first target. He never tried to bite the stick, he just kept backing away, until he was off my property, at which point I ended the encounter.
Moral of the story, a stick is very handy to keep dogs at bay.
Have a wonderful time, and please post pictures. _________________ My Soapboxes: Inflation; Handling; Gearing; Decoupling; Swepco |

Thanks for the invite Aswah This trip litterally went "I havent seen the ocean in a while"......"ok lets go" style. I am back in Tahoe now. Next time I will be sure to plan a little bit better. You are always welcome here as well. There is a national forest entrance just down the street with some very nice spots.
Usal campground had 20 or so kids partying at one of the sites but they were respectful and living it up before school started again. I went a few miles past the no thru traffic sign but I was worried about fuel so we didn't go much past the campground. A local told us it takes about 10 hours to get to shelter cove this way. Have you done the whole thing ?
Heres my new dog I picked up in Michigan last week.
Thanks all. |
