Feds are jumping around my neighborhood now. Yet another 'benefit' of buying from China, the Asian Long Horned Beetle has invaded my home city. This pervasive little bugger has taken out a half dozen 100 year old Silver Maple trees in my yard including one that was 5 feet in diameter and a perfect tree for my sons first tree house.
Worst part about it, is that they knew about them here 7 or 8 years ago and are now just getting to them. I guess I am better off than some, I am out of immediate ground zero and did not have my lot clear cut.
Anyway, the feds (USDA) combined with some arborist contractors are there pulling trees today and they decided to set up their crane so the path of lifting was directly over the Thingamajigger, garage and my second driveway. I asked them about where they were setting up this morning, the van was not in the path they said.
I guess (through wife's description, I am at work, dont tell them I am on the Samba!) that upon removing a piece of tree, the sling slipped and a 10 foot piece crashed down behind the van. Another 2 seconds and I would have a new and much bigger skylight.
Neighbor just moved the Thingamajigger for me, wife cant drive manual shift.
That could have really ruined my day . . . _________________ Its a mistress; an expensive, whiney, needy bitch of a mistress. Wow, got lucky there! I had a huge silver maple in my yard when I lived in RI, we had it removed to put in a driveway and because the limbs tend to fall off. No idea on the age, but found a lot of arrowheads in the ground when we got the root out. They had to go 10' down to get at the tap where it was stll way over a ft in dia. |
