I am good with the cheating. I did one road trip 4.5-5 hrs once.It sure beats on you. I will do 2.5hrs to E TX area. Thats not bad. after that, trailer time for me.... |
Well, I used to bag on folks for trailering... But with age comes aches and pains(but enough about my kids! )... Wisdom has prevailed, Finally..
I've declared 2.5hrs my max as well. The noise just beats me down, and that's With ear plugs in.. Gone are the days of loud stereos, windows down on the highway, and 14hr driving days....
That 5hrs in my road rig is much nicer than would be in Our Thing.. _________________ '74 Thing, "Our Thing"....

I have had these duckboards installed for a years, but never took the time to truly finish them.... Until last week!
My son helped with the sanding, and then I oiled them to bring out the Super rich dimension of that Phillipine Mahonagy! No stain or colorant added..
I've now got the duck boards, Shift knob, handbrake handle, and a "duckboard" for the glove box all made from this same Mahogany! The steering wheel is a Mahogany look, and matches very well to the rest!

We spent today cruising around in Our Thing! It was a gorgeous 80* and clear skies, with a cool breeze.
Started the morning at Harper VW Cars and Coffee in Knoxville... Estimated 4000 cars there today! That is knoxvilles West town mall parking lot....chocked full!!
After the event, we took the byways back south towards home, and ended up cruising past to go get some ice cream! It was just such a gorgeous day!
Then I decided to give my bride a shot in the left seat! She did great, and I beleive she's gonna want to drive it more often.... I may have created a monster!
Such a great day for family fun, and Thing cruising!!

I also decided it was time to do some fine tuning... She's had a lot of pre detination these past few trips, and has been running pretty warm.
I found my timing to be off(I reset to ~30* at 3300rpm), as well as carb linkage needed tweaked.. I also reset the air/fuel mixture, as I've fiddled with it over the past few months trying to get it "right"....
Not sure if it's right, yet, But she runs great and pulls strong! I'll check my mpgs on the next couple tanks and see how efficient she is!
She started right with a bump of the key, and No throttle input!!

Thanks guys!
Yeah Zig, that's our back yard! The animals were all in the front barn, so no cameos this time.. We've got Katahdin sheep, two mini donkeys(to protect the sheep), rabbits, ducks and a hen.. (We've already processed one ram, and our steer is ready to be picked up from processing as well...(I gotta buy another freezer tomorrow!!)
We've got 10 rabbits that will get processed in summer... No pleasure animals here, everyone pays their way!..... Well, I do raise Koi, they're relaxing, not to eat....I've got 3 monsters(3'+ long) in that pond, as well as 4 Smaller ones I raised from 2-3".... They are over 1' Long now. I've got two more in the tank, that are about ready to move up to the pond! It's neat to watch them progress in the tank, and then release them to the pond, where they are unlimited in growth potential!
We're blessed to live here, and appreciate everyday we get to enjoy this gorgeous valley! _________________ '74 Thing, "Our Thing"....

So, this is all about Our Thing, and our adventures with her.....
Well, a new chapter has begun, as after 5 months of being layed up with medical issues, and starting on LTD I received notification of my release from employment, after 3 yrs of impeccable service..
God is good, Life goes on, and we're excited for the next adventure!
I guess that rear disc brake setup just got pushed down the list...... : _________________ '74 Thing, "Our Thing"....

Looking good Joe! Julie and I went to a nearby town today to drive through a newly opened "safari park", geared towards kids but very cool, where someone asked us if we were going to the car show. So we found said car show and entered, spent a long time talking to a guy with a 1912 Maxwell. Didn't really have time and had to leave before the judging, but still fun. From the picture it looks like you had a nice day for driving around, fabulous! |

It rained at the show site right before we got there! It's funny enough to pull in with a Thing, but in nekkid config And JUsT after a downpour certainly drew some odd looks! They're all wiping the water off the cars, and we roll in totally exposed and Dry! Lol. Crazy TN weather!
I've tried to get an idea for a car for Evan, but he's not narrowed it down enough.. I'd love to start building one with him now and have it ready to go at license issuance! He needs to be working more and actually Saving some of his money, as he knows We're not buying him a car... _________________ '74 Thing, "Our Thing"....

Actually on the later ones its for the EGR "sandwich" box that would screw into it. On my 74 I removed the lower box under cooling tin but left the top "valve" plugged off of couse |
