Ideas for hanging pocket type things for the passenger seat back?
I'd have thought there'd be tons of threads o this, but "hang pocket seat back" got zero hits (?!) _________________ 1986 2.1L Westy 2wd Auto Trans. |

I store my little ladder and the small table on the back of the passenger seat. |

I can't find the blog that discussed it, anymore, but I remember someone commenting that these seatcovers fit their Vanagon seats pretty well. The covers are cheap, have lots of pockets, and are quite adjustable. Seem like they'd work out pretty well for storage.

I did once see a Peltier powered soft sided cooler that hangs back there.
pretty neat for juice drinks and such to save space and cooling in the stock fridge. _________________

I have a hard-top sunroof syncro passenger with the center bench out so have two canvas-like seatback pocket thingy's -- I think I got them at Target for around $18 each.
In the westy weekender I have something similar but made more of leather/vinyl on the back of the front passenger seat, and behind the driver's seat I keep a small fold out table plus Benchmark road/recreation atlases. I don't recall where I got this one but it was local and I'll guess it was at an auto parts store like Autozone or something. |

hey randywebb, this photo doesn't show it but our seat covers have storage pockets in the back.
The back has a couple small mesh pockets up top and a large covered/snap pocket lower down. It might be two layers with a mesh a top. I'll grab more photos if you're interested. _________________ Julia

I was actually thinking about posting this as a separate thread a few days ago. By accident, I found that my Dakine Dispatch messenger-style bag was perfect for this application.

It looks great, doubles as a cycling-friendly backpack, is water resistant, fits a laptop computer, holds things like water bottles within easy reach, organizes lots of fiddly little bits, and it looks fantastic, too. Much nicer looking and better made than most FLAPS stuff. They can be found online on closeout in 2-3 different color styles for $40-$50. It also keeps valuables out of site when I don't have the curtains drawn.
It does not interfere at all with the seat fore/aft, recline or swivel. I also found a way to attach it securely without the straps even touching the passenger.
A really sweet mod that I would recommend. _________________ "See The Glass As Already Broken."

The one i have had for about 4 yrs has a strap going around hd-rest,sits on backside and it's level. Has a flip down table about 1ft/sq and a deep cup holder at end end, good for mid seat pass, i bought mainly for cupholders. |

My bride took some multi-pocket nail aprons from the hardware store and sewed them together so they're stacked and we hang the result off the seat back. Tends to get in the way sometimes when rotating the seat but that's only done while camping and not in general use. |

I have the Go Westy style version mentioned above.
I do NOT like it.
(I will give it away to anyone here for free, PM me if you want it, you pay modest postage.)
IMHO, it's poorly made, has lots of small fiddly pockets that do not fit my organizational style, and majorly gets in the way when I want to turn the passenger seat to face the rear.
I also ditched the fancy between the seat console, as it impedes the nice walk through space.
After just returning from a a 10 day road trip, the solution that worked best for me is a simple large sturdy but flexible basket generally living between the front seats. It's a catch all for maps, binoculars, guidebooks, etc, holds a ton, can be easily moved around if needed.
I also think a small wooden organizer that fits in the ashtray space would be great. Working on that one . . .

Bump. Added photos to my post above of the Dakine Dispatch bag mounted on the passenger seat. Have a look. Sure beats all that JC Whitney-type crapola that I usually see offered for this application. _________________ "See The Glass As Already Broken."

Growing up, my parents loved to road trip with my sister and me in their Dodge van. My mom had taken an old pair of corduroy pants and made some seat back pocket organizers with them. In high school when I got to drive the van around, the comment that I heard the most was about how cool the pockets were. When I finally bought my van, my sister went to the local thrift store and bought some pants and a bunch of pairs of boardshorts and built me these beauties. Now everyone who checks my van out has some comment about where did I get those awesome pocket organizers.
I have done some minor modification to make them hang a bit more snug, but they are awesome. Map book and bigger things just get stuffed in between the seat and the organizer and random stuff fills the pockets. The only problem is trying to remember which of the zillion pockets you put that thing you are looking for in. Thanks sis' I love my seat back organizers!

My wife found an inexpensive hanging shoe holder. She shortened it by cutting some of the bottom off, and removed the metal hangers from the top. Then, I think she sewed on a fabric tie string to the top. You couldd probably just thread a small rope through the existing grommeted holes. It ties around the head rest posts. Our looks like below, but has mesh pockets instead oof fabric. It hold a ton of stuff, and with the mesh you can see what you are looking for. I love my crafty wife!

We have this same one pictured. It does the job. It does create an extra obstacle when spinning your seat around though. There are dozens of options on amazon. |

I have two of these (one on each front seat).
They fit very nicely (very adjustable) and snugly - very little slack or bunching up anywhere. They are arm-rest compatible (the sides of the seats each have a long velcro closure, and so you can pop the arm rest through, and the rest stays nice and tight. The backs have tons of srorage for large and small items.
I used fabric glue to add little Westfalia patches (bought from GW) over the Cabela's logos.
I think the grey matches the grey interior of my van well also.
