New Zealand? Nobody does VW aircooled where you are at?

What recourse you thinking? maybe talk w/ Chico and see what can be done to make it right w/ you.

What happened to the motor?

After my grandfather passed, I inherited his old dune buggy that hadn't run in many years. After a complete re-wire, carb re-build, brake system rebuild, and fuel system flush, I got it running! 20 minutes into the maiden voyage, the motor locks up in the middle of the desert. I don't have the time to rebuild it or the specialty tools, so I am looking for a reputable source for a crate engine. I have seen a few posts that say, "NO GEX!!!" and a couple that recommend cip1.com for a long block, but I want something turn key. Any of you guys have a good experience that you can share? I assume I'm going to drop $4,000 or more, so I don't want to regret the purchase. I am considering Mofoco, JCS Volks Masters, maybe Jim's Air Cooled. Thanks in advance!!!

DubDyno says,
110.1 HP @6000 RPM.
114.7 Torque @ 4500 RPM
This was calculated with Los Panchito heads and 1 1/2" header.
8.5:1 compression ratio.

I changed things a bit and came up with.
125.3 HP @ 6500 RPM.
115.7 Torque @ 5000 RPM.
This was with the same heads. I changed the rockers to 1.25.
Exhaust 1 5/8".
Dual 44 IDF carbs.
8.5:1 compression ratio.
Both of the above can run lower octane pump gas.

Good Luck.

Officially picked up a very stock 67 Ghia. Body in great shape. Looking to modify the tranny ( Freeway) and engine (2110). Any experience builders in the chicagoland area. This area not known for older VW's. Thanks

This thread hasn’t been updated in a minute.

So I’m looking for a stock 1600 DP.
Most important to me is reliability and longevity.
It’s my daily driver so smooth is also a plus.
I’m leaning towards Mofoco for the long block.
I’m in San Diego Ca if that pertinent.

My questions are
1 Do they still have amount of support I see in this site?
2 Do they offer electronic balancing and Counterweighted Crankshaft?
3 Do those 2 upgrades really improve smoothness and longevity?

Thank you in advance for all info shared.

Reach out to Roy and ask him all of your questions.
He's been on here for the last couple days.

Chico at CPR offers his better than stock long blocks.
Search for his ads and give him a call, great guy to deal with.
He’s building a 1955 and Pro Street freeway flier trans for my ‘65 beetle.

I will look into Chico I like the idea of getting in Cali and saving the shipping fee.
Mofoco reputation is impressive though.
Thanks for the info.
