Anyone know anything about a Pierburg brand fuel pump or have an opinion.
Why are they so much more expensive than a Bosch? Would this just be a total waste of money?

I've had both; with my dirty tank at the time, the Pierburg was more buzzy and the Bosch more whiny, if that makes any sense.
I found the Pierburg at a local parts house when my original Bosch quit and paid around $150 IIRC. I would have searched for a better deal but I was in a bind. It had the loop/screw-on connectors instead of plugs.
It only lasted two years, maybe I got a bad one.
I went back to Bosch after that.
The only thing that would make it more expensive as far as I can tell is that it's German. Bosch stuff is manufactured elsewhere so the quality control might be less-than-optimal. _________________ Joe T.

Looks just like a Bosch. What makes it the best? |

I've been running a Pierburg for about a year, with both an old tank and now a new one. Works great. Thought I would try something different after reading of people's troubles with Bosch (adding resistors, noise) and other brands. I found a reasonable price at the time. _________________ 1986+ Wolfsburg Weekender Pop-Top 2.3 WBX Manual Trans |

Slight thread hijack:
I replaced my fuel pump about six months ago. I was having obvious performance issues, and the replacement totally cured it. The old pump was loud, too. The pump I replaced it with was used, and given to me by a friend (thanks again, Eric!), and nice and quiet. In the last week or so, I've noticed it humming a bit. What to do? Get another one ready, or just turn up the stereo? (I hear it between songs, though )
Advice appreciated!
Thanks

My fuel pump always gets noisy when the fuel filter is starting to plug. Change the filter and the noise goes away, at least for me. _________________ 1984 Westfalia Wolfsburg Edition

Same here, more or less. I have a rusty gas tank that slowly plugs the pump, filter, and I suspect the outlet of the gas tank itself. If I shake the rust out of the pump/filter my pump will be quite until the next time I drive on a washboarded dirt road. The buzz will resume within 30 seconds of that kind of driving or after a week or two of driving on pavement.
New tank and evap grommets/hoses are in my garage patiently waiting for right weeekend to do the install. Hopefully that cures my "buzz" and the annoying tendancy of my van to stall on the way home from a camping trip every so often. _________________ '91 Westfalia GL Automatic (GTA "Turbo" Rebuild w/Peloquin) and 2.3L GoWesty Engine |
