Hi All,
As you all know, I made a RHD dash cover, some time ago.

Have till now been able to keep a large number of type 3 on the road looking good.

Have now been inundated with calls for the LHD dash.

So now we are doing the moulds for the LHD unit in both late model as well as Wraparound early models.

So please follow our progress here on this thread, mark it , and you will be able to get one as soon as they come off the mould.

You heard it first here on the Samba
So spread the word, they will be here in a short while.

Here is a view of the RHD dash,

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Till latter.

Herman

I hope it will be the same pricing as the RHD ones at around $150. If it is and it fits good, then he will sell a bajillion of them! I know that i'll definitely purchase one or two.

I'm waiting to see how 68notch's RHD dash comes out. These dashes don't have the right texture and the areas between the gauge hoods just look weird. With the way 68notch is going about it, I'm hoping they come out like WCM's old repop dashes. Don't get me wrong, I think anyone willing to provide something for the Type 3 community is a good thing, but I'm being picky about this one. Confused

The texture look more like leather than the pebbly finish on the stock units. Nothing wrong with that, though it will look non-original.

Are they the soft padded style like the OEM or something different. The RHD dash looks really nice.

You are correct, The texture is slightly different, as the original has a pebbly look, ours has a leather look.

Our finish is the same as the surface of the dash handle, as your guys know these never matched.

The reason I have opted for this look is that it is a replacement, we will never be able to reproduce the original, and we do not want to try, or to try and bluff some one that it is an OEM, so now we can have our cars look good, but still be true to the purist among us.

Yes we are getting there,
We have made the basis of the mould,
Finishing the top face and then we will be making the inserts.
Should not be to long now,
Unfortunately this takes time, but still hopping to have the 1st off an the next 3 weeks or so.
If I neglect to post reports, please remind me or have a look at http://www.aircooledvwsa.co.za/viewtopic.php?f=72&t=22397
All the best

Excellent! Last I looked, you hadn't updated your Sudafrika thread for awhile. Would like to get my pile done for the Type 3 Invasion! Very Happy

Hi All,
Just an update about the tooling for the dash mould.

Standard mould now complete, and will now be sized to length, then the "Wraparound" inserts will be fitted, and tested.

Not far off now, two weeks tops, maybe, if that famous Irishman stays clear..... Shocked

Will let you know.

Have you ever considered making ABS gloveboxes? I was looking at mine tonight and it's in really rough shape. ABS would be awesome for them, much more durable than cardboard. Not sure if there would be much of a market for them though.

Hi All,
Just an update on the Left Hand Dash.
The Moulds are now done, I have checked them and are now being polished.
The machine has been booked for Friday when we going to do both 1st OFF test run.
If all works out, the units will be moulded with in next week.
Will keep you updated on this thread.
Herman
PS;- Tramp, your dash has survived, in its original condition, and will be coming back to you with a new unit.

i think there would be a market for them, mine is not in bad shape, but i would like a new one so that i can drill into it to run my cable for the ipod hookup, or perhaps relocate the stereo to the dash, and just really nervious about drilling into original equipment
